Anyone else finding a lack of design culture on the coast?
- RIZ0
well, I guess it would help if there was actually any sort of 'cultural hub' on the Sunshine Coast... I mean it's essentially a tourist / holiday area... So why would you expect there to be any design culture outside of Brisbane or the Gold Coast? You need businesses and commerce to encourage design culture...

my guess is that there are heaps of creatives here... more than we all know, but nothing to facilitate coming together unless heading to larger cities. In response to Meeklo - the sunny coast is too small to miss something ;)

there must be a fair bit of graphic design going on with surfing and entertainment stuff?
(*thinks about Mooloolaba beach front strip, tries to remember any good design at all)
or maybe not.- A lot of tourism stuff is outsourced to Bris. Surf industry stuff to the Goldieenfocusmedia

Hat off to AustralianInFront - those guys were pushing design communities back with DesignIsKinky. We need more of that outside Sydney / Melbourne.

I find it hard to imagine finding much of that around the Sunshine Coast.
There's more culture in the average yoghurt.
- well to be fair, surrounded by sun, surf, hot chick and great drugs, + the heat, would you bother?airey
- come on now... it is worth doing something else... 30 years of that becomes a drag...ae
- hey, i'm not doing it, just putting the different view out there! i'm pale (read: transparent) and overweight so the beach is out.airey
- and stopped smoking pot when i turned 20. hasn't made me any happier though.airey
- There's more 'culture' on the SC than the GC. Hence the wave of melbournians...enfocusmedia
- ...skipping the GC for their seachange and heading straight to Noosaenfocusmedia
- Noosa is its own sphere as well... the sunshine beach strip has a vibe.ae
- Of course, you assumed this was a negative post. Culture just means overpriced coffee and shit art. COME ON!!!!!MrT
- Haha, nah... you can get that on the GC lolenfocusmedia

damn you folks in new york, london & tokyo!

The only design culture I can imagine there is print shops, housed in ugly hinterland industrial strips, peopled by young surfer dudes who don’t care about design or culture.
- airey0
some surf and skate design culture is awesome.
and zenith was a fan of glam metal bands (read: warrant etc) and leather pants in the day so take his and my opinions at a distance!
- solid advice.Zenith_Kudos
- my first cd was milli vanilli. i shit you not. that and u2 joshua tree on high rotation. yes, i am tool hear me work.airey
- I was hard into the goth before I got in hair-metal. I’m back into the goth again.Zenith_Kudos

I ended my last 'design' role on the Sunny Coast about a yr ago. If I didn't have any online collabs happenning in Syd/Goldy/Bris/Melbs it would have been a lonely time.
The job was rewarding bc I was working with a non-profit org but I did feel my creative juices dry up big time. I'm now working in Shanghai in a non 'design' role and feeling those creative urges come back again. Funny how life works...
Anyways, I hope the creative ppl on the Sunny Coast get together and make something happen. The 'problem' with living in a such a beautiful place is that 'work' is not always the greatest priority...
As if I'm going to be thinking about a design brief when a good swell is hitting Noosa ;)
- by 'non design' role, do you mean rub-and-tug masseuse?airey
- i hear that. no swell today - hence the post...ae
- Guess we all know what airey did during his stay in Chinaenfocusmedia
- Soooo.... how much?NotByHand

i agree with you enfocus - up there life/work balance is different to that of melb/sydney - and for good reason. what are you doing in shanghai?
- Had a bit of career change - I'm now teaching at an International School.enfocusmedia
