Have any of u guys experience this? Yesterday i had an self evaluation meeting with my boss after working in this company for 7 months(my 1st job out of university). My boss deduct my monthly salary because he said that im not a professional graphic designer , for example , he needs to be with me in front of the computer doing projects and he also said that i do not know what a grid is.
I have done a lot of projects for them, for eg. 3d renderings and websites.

What does your contract say? Is there a clear job description that you refer to? Do you know what a grid is? Does he have to sit you to get exactly what he wants because he doesn't trust your abilities? Does he have to do that with other staff? Maybe he wants to let you go but hasn't got the the guts so he drops your salary?
Or maybe you're not meeting his expectations so he's genuinely dropping your salary to give you the impetus to improve. A review does mean that salaries can go down as well as up (not often but it happens).
Only you really know what the situation is...

yes i do have a contract, it stated that i need to wait for 6 months to ge t a confirmation to work . My position is called multimedia designer. basically i have to do lot of things. Yes i know what a grid is. I think he sits next to me because he wants to do everything on his own .. so yeah ,he do not trust my abilities. I'm the first designer in this company , well, that what he was saying. so i do not know about other staffs. thank you for giving new perspectives . :)

I also a have a boss who thinks he can do it better than,
wich he can't, so thats a very subjective point he has there.
List up your project, make it clear, look this is all the work i've done.
Btw. There is something as a work in period, because when your fresh from college you still have got a lot to learn.Your boss sounds like a wanker...

I agree. You're fresh from college, and you will learn quite a bit from this job. But, that's no reason for your boss to lower your salary. That's just plan awful, regardless of the reasons (mostly).
So, if it's not killing you with the pay cut, stick it out another five months and then start looking for a new job.

Lowering your salary, isn't that illegal?

I'd look for a new job. It's tough when you're new out of college and he should expect to have to make sure your projects are finished to the necessary standard. Doesn't sound like a very professional boss to me. Get the hell out of there, you'll never get onto a decant salary with those kind of people!

I've never heard of a pay decrease in any jobs... That must be really unusual. I heard of demotions, but still, not affected pay.
Anyway, you have to understand that many bosses will promise evaluations after a certain period of time, 50% of the time they will screw you over. That is just an excuse to try to keep you. Happened to me twice. When the review time comes up- they keep putting it off, or say the company is not doing so well, so there's no increase...
If you were really affecting the company performance that bad, he would let you go, not keep you. They are just being cheap. But- Keep the job, build your portfolio as you look for something better... You can't even trust the guy with a good reference.

I still say don't "suck it up" and keep working there.
Sounds like you need to improve your design chops. So you need to work on that and then immediately start looking for another job.
Most likely this boss has set opinions about you and your abilities, so I would not expect him to be promoting you anytime soon.
the best revenge is telling that shittay boss, "i'm giving you my notice."

That's because school can't teach you how to deal with clients, because there is no way to replicate a real client interaction in school. Every client is different.
Nor can anyone can even begin to replicate the random things that just happen to set someone off that day(spouses, kids, mortgages). And then there are middle managers attempting to justify their existence at their jobs.
School is meant to teach you fundamentals of design and how to think. As much as CD & AD may not want to do it, only a real job can teach you real life experiences. That's why you get internships.

Professional = you get paid for what you do, sounds like he's making excuses to pay you less. How do the clients receive your work?
If its well & you make them money you deserve the salary stated when you took the job. Don't let these people grind you down.
