  So I get an email from someone who wants to purchase the rights of one of my flickr photos to use for a "funny project" .

  He just wants the rights to use it - not exclusive or anything like that.

  Since I am (clearly) not a professional photographer, I have no idea what to ask for as far as money is concerned.

  It's good of them to get in touch with you - I'm sure a lot of people take stuff without asking. If he had just pinched it and used it, would you ever know? Don't rip the guy off just 'cause he's honest...

  But again, good shot, believe in yourself you are a good photographer. Take photos of all thing in the same way and make a book. Sell it to people. you will be rich.
