I'm trying to have a xp pro pc to work as a server over a closed LAN (crossover cable) with a vista config laptop over 192.168.x.x. Vista pings on XP, but has no permissions (doable), but XP doesn't ping on Vista at all. I'm guessing it's that crazy in-built firewall. I'll try this tomorrow, but I suspect it has to do with vista versions. Common laptop configs on vista are basic and do not allow you to work directly with manual network configs. Retail Vista-powered notebooks are only prepared for Wi-fi. If you're dealing with LAN you're in for a lot of trouble. It's doable though. I'll post when I find a solution. I'll be working on this next sunday-afternoon.
