  I only skimmed the article, but I honestly wouldn't doubt that there could be some truth to what he's saying (not that there is necessarily, but could be) since after all genes to determine basically everything about us including skin color, why not intelligence? Plus you have to remember that this all refers to our starting point, not our overall intelligence after a length of time. So his hypothesis could be reached if you presume that the test only studies one type of intelligence, for instance one that caucasians happen to be commonly conditioned to.

  I remember the Bell Curve issue and how so many people were angry. What I don't get is if someone says "Asian people are smarter than white people", I'd say, sure.... It seems they certainly work their ass off, and you see asian prodigys all the time, so why couldn't you reason black people weren't as smart as white people? When you say that people go crazy like you hate black people, which isnt' true. As ismith mentioned, it's a starting point. I've worked with really smart black people, and really dumb white poeple... I don't know why this causes so much anger. To dismiss it as pure racism seems to be ignorant and blind to the argument itself. If you want to debate, look at the research and debate, but don't dismiss just because you don't like it.

  There is also a note that says black people have high sex drives... but I'm not insulted. It's just data to take in and think about.

  Is Watson's claim really so preposterous considering how advanced modern Western societies are in comparison to relatively primitive societies like Africa? With technological and scientific evolution must come some genetic progression.

  So really, what is the measure of intelligence? I notice it mentioned "reasoning" but even that will be different across cultures, no? Test the intelligence of a person raised in an established education system and who works with advanced technology 5 days with the idea to create financial stability, then do the same with a person who is raised in an established family/tribe role and works with primitive technology whose goal is to feed themselves and their family at least once a day. I'm sure there will be more than just intelligence that will measure differently.

  Also, I read that article and made "intelligent" debate out of it… but I only read half of it so I guess idea that blacks are lazy is true.

  I find Jared Diamond's research and explanations for social inequity are pretty interesting {Guns, Germs, Steel). His case study on native New Guineans shows that, given their limited resources, they really don't lack any ingenuity.

  All societies are victims/beneficiaries of circumstance to some extent, I suppose.

  Since so many of you seem willing to buy this argument, consider the following...if you compared Western society in the 1300s or 1400s to Arabic society using Watson's criteria...you would be forced to come to the conclusion that Arabs were intellectually superior to whites.

  Arabic societies at that time were more advanced in almost every way to white societies, which were mostly ignorant and ravaged by famine and disease. Most of the technological innovation, as well as the military power, came out of the Arab world. In other words, shit changes and the dominant society of today will not be the one of tomorrow. We are already seeing a shift with the relative decline of the West and the ascent of China and India.

  To Point5's comment - agree, good point. To that point I wouldn't last long if I was dropped down in many tribes in Africa because I'm so used to my house and electricity and things I take for granted. So you have an "intelligent" person like me, totally fucked in an environment where people we would call stupid live every day. I wonder how many researchers define intelligence....
