Blu-ray Players 1818 Responses

Been looking at various reviews on the web, but curious if anyone out there has any suggestions on players?
Should I wait until the profile 2 players are out? Should I go with a standalone, or a PS3? What features do you think are critical?
Sorry for the barrage of questions and thanks :)

Thanks guys!
Looks like the PS3 might just be the way to go. I didn't realize it was BD-Live or profile 2 compliant with a firmware upgrade. That's awesome. I also like the fact that you can stream media to it.
Anyone have any cons to getting the PS3 over a standalone?

like everyone else said, get the ps3 w/ remote. I've got http://tversity.com for streaming music/video, but plenty around.
good luck

A standalone player will give you better performance over a PS3.
Depends on your budget... top end Blu-ray players cost a lot more than a PS3.
Are you a money-no-object audiophile kinda guy? Or do you just want a Blu-ray player with the option of being able to play games sometimes?

I just got a PS3. In terms of Blu-Ray, the only thing I watched was the DVD that comes with the system (introduction to the console) and the high-def was awesome. I also bought a cable so that I can view games in high-def (we have a high-def TV but we haven't bought the package to enable it). It's great so far.
I plan on getting Planet Earth series next and watching it.

I'm probably not going to do much gaming.
First priority is being able to watch hi-def movies and output 5.1 dd, dts and pcm. 7.1 doesn't matter for me, since my audio components can't handle it. Besides that I've already wired the room for 5.1, and I'm not about to go breaking into the sheetrock at this point.
The Wi-Fi/ethernet and streaming features are also a big plus for me, so I can stream content from my PC.

on the topic of digital tuners, tv and cable. it's weird - I can watch all my neighbors on demand movies as they are watching them. we have the most basic cable package, so we don't have any of the on-demand stuff.
my wife and I have been trying to figure what neighbors are watching what. someone is really into independent films, someone is really into porn, and someone watches a lot of crappy chick flicks.
One night someone was watching some crappy t&a flick and kept rewinding this one nude scene. after that scene, it stopped. :) dude was so rubbing one off, heh.
