A guy I work with worships Captain Beefheart. I don't get it.

    • You're obviously wrong somehow.moth

My dad made me listen to captain beefheart growing up, so I kind of have an aversion. But I discovered Zappa of my own accord. I'd place Zappa way up there in the genius category. As a composer he's up there with some of the best classical guys.
He was also hilarious and a great social commentator.

Also graphics wise, one of my favourite album covers ever:

I thought it was fairly impossible to like Zappa and not like Beefheart. Kind of cut from the same cloth.

    • not at all, beefheart was a studied composer like zappa. Plus zappa's voice was actually quite good, he surrounded himself with great musicians tooBaskerviIle1/3
himself with great musicians too, the best player for each instrument, same can't be said for beefheartBaskerviIle2/3
that first note should have said beefheart wasn't a a studied composerBaskerviIle3/3
