Never again MT - I stopped using them for 2 years because of problems. I put one project back on a MT account recently WHY WHY did I?
Every few days down time (there are plenty more downtimes they don't report)

If you're really having serious problems, contact them about a refund. If you can explain the situation and the issue well enough (in this case the poor uptime that isn't up to par with its advertised ability) then they shouldn't charge you or will offer another way out.

What other hosting companies would you recommend then at a similar price? (I know they're not the cheapest)

  well, I'm doing s site for a client and their godaddy acct sucks big time! It doesn't support all the PHP used for the site– OSFA2/4
  godaddy is ok for the simplest of sites, but if you need a special php config or to install your own sw, forget it– acescence3/4

We're on 2 dv servers and either one is usually down at least 1 hour a day.
Usually at night.
Fucking crap.
