Good job, Kappa - the functionality and information layout is impressive, though the colour scheme and header graphic/logo really doesn't broadcast prestigious, expensive watches - it's kind of the opposite. Also, I think your Search Results layout page could do with just a touch more space, to allow each watch to stand out a little better.

Beyond the cheap-looking graphics, my main concern would be that there is no information there to substantiate who you are - if I'm even thinking about slapping down quite a few Ks on a watch, I want to be impressed by your credentials up front.

I don't want to come across all negative - I like the way it's built and find the UI pretty darned good - I just think the graphics are shit.

    • I wanted to say this but don't have the skillz to back up any of my negativity. Overall, I like thoughismith1/4
On first impression alone, I agree with detritus about the colours/header.Complexfruit2/4
It's got nothing to do with your skills - if you were a luxury watch buyer - what would your impression be?detritus3/4
cleaned up the search result page a little to separate listings a little more.BannedKappa4/4

Hope this link doesn't break, but there's a wee problem with some images not showing in your search results listing - three of these 'Mauboussin Ladies Fouga' images are showing as 10 pixel or so high lines...

methinks you are inserting parameters from the url straight into a sql query without properly sanitizing.

Another thing - once I've found my watch using the Search, I'd appreciate a clean URL to add to my bookmarks - having that humunguous array of parameters in the url is disconcerting and frightening.

Just a quick friendly brain dump and I'm going to bed.

As an Australian art director once said to me, "this homepage doesn't look very homepagey"..
Where are the feature boxes? Why is currency chooser so prominent?

Logo/colour scheme are nice, but would rather suit sport watches.

Luxury watches are just watches, with the 'added value' of a bullshit story that renders them luxurious. This page doesn't tell such story, doesn't encourage to spend on a watch more than it is worth. Which is $15-30 for any decently made watch.

Everyone has a clock in their mobile phone now. Watches are useless then. They're nothing but jewelry.

    Where's da bling?

Why would I want to 'flag as inappropriate'? I take it this isn't automated? Otherwise, if I were an unscrupulous dealer, I'd be tempted to delete all my competition.

Actually colours are very nautical, those rounded corners and logo would be an excellent choice for a scuba store, with expensive scuba equipment :)

Yeah I have to say I agree w/ detritus, the site is well laid out but the branding feels wrong. Not classy enough.

I can't really complain about the usability though, nice job.

(I have avoided this thread so far, because I thought it was about bowel motion).

I like the site – nice and clean, but i have to say the colours reminded me a bit of DIGG. Otherwise, great work on a huge job.

The original design was darker, more moody, more serious, but the client, wanted it lighter, appealing, not too corporate looking. Seeing as watch enthusiast are getting younger and younger. 30 something dudes with a disposable income.
    Appreciate all the feedback...K

    • clients don't know shit.
propose to the client they can have it the way the want it, it it can sell watches. up to them.

The website is very nice and clean.

However the logo, fonts, color palette and page layout do not reflect anything about luxury, sophistication, or classic watch brands.

The site actually looks more like a really nice watch portal.

My client doesn't actually sell any watches, he merely provides a service to watch dealer around the world to list their watches.
If your a private seller and have a watch you can list it free of charge, he's looking at the dealers.

Here's some of the most respected brands in watches websites.
    www.panerai.com
    www.rolex.com
    www.iwc.com
    www.patek.com
    www.breitling.com

I feel most of these are just plain stuffy and boring except for the Breitling site.
