  Are you on the same local network or is the target far away? If you're physically close (and you've got Macs) then you could connect via Firewire and target disk mode.

  Shut one machine down, connect them, boot the machine back up while holding the T key. It'll turn the freshly booted computer into an overblown external hard drive. Works beautifully.
