What platform are you working on wendog?
I recommend Modul8 on Osx (you can also feed live video)
its much like a sampler for video, designed to be used on real time (including output for multiple projections)A cheaper option would be Quartz Composer, (it comes on OS X on the installer CD under Developer Tools), it works like a modular system, you plug virtual wires to different boxes, and you can make it react to audio, video and even pick up feeds from internet.
If you are on PC, maybe you should try VVV with Quartenion
