Street Photography Camera Jan 7, 12, 12:35 p.m.
All QBN photographers & esp Hombre_Lobo the "qbn camera answers man"
I'm looking for a replacement camera to my Ricoh GX100 and would appreciate any feedback about my shortlist, esp if you have these cameras or have testied/tried them.
I got the GX100 a few years ago after selling all my Lomo LC-A+(Plus Wide Angle Lens), Holga and other retro cameras. These cameras made me fall in love with photography all over again as it was fun and experimental again rather than being clinical and digital.
I chose the GX100 over the GRD because it had the zoom lens. Something that's handy for getting closer to things up high. I love VERY wide angle street photography so I use the GX a lot with the lens hood adaptor, 43-46mm step up ring and a Nikon WC-E68 lens. This means that im carting about a tiny camera but with a big hefty lens on the front most of the time.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN A CAMERA:
- Small size (Both camera and lens - the smaller the bulk, the more likely i'm likely to take my camera out with me)
- Fun (Not too much faffing around too)
- Image quality (Both high and low iso's)
- Possibility of v.wide or fisheye lenses (would be on most of the time)
- quite discreet for shooting on the sly
- zoom/telephoto lens(es)
THE SHORTLIST
Fujifilm X10
Not the smallest of cameras but thinner than others with lenses when camera is off. I've seen people with filters screwed into the front so I wonder if I could get step ups from 40.5-46mm and use my Nikon lens for this when I want to take very wide stuff.
Not a huge sensor but it gives great results from what ive seen on flickr and review tests.
Seen it described as a P+S camera that pro's have been wishing for years to happen.
To turn on you twist the lens which cuts out having to click a button to turn on then think about taking the photo.
Pentax Q
With this camera I think people "get it" or they just "dont get it" and will probably slate it. I love how fun this camera seems whilst still knocking out decent quality pics even at high iso's! Size is tiny - although with some of the lenses on it, it becomes a chunkier thicker thing.
Lots of filters/effects/settings you can set to quick dial on front. Decent selection of lenses for high quality or fun shooting.
Kinda pricey for the spec on paper.
This guy does a great review and think he feels the same about this camera as I do. We "get it"
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 + 14-42mm X Lens
Kinda chunky body but coupled with the X lens doesnt give such a huge bulk. VERY high quality 16mp! Could buy a fisheye/wide lens to carry around when shooting.
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GF3 + 14-42mm X Lens
A lot smaller than the GX1, only 12MP though. With the X series lens it isnt a bulk.

Feedback photography Portfolio Aug 19, 11, 2:22 p.m.
Hi Guys,
I've decided to put together a PDF of my most recent work. I'm gonna send this out to Creative Directors, AD, Art Buyers and Photo Editors.
Many of them are familiar with my earlier work so this is just an update of what I've been doing the last three months.
I'm looking for constructive feedback, have I missed anything? Should I take anything out?

Wedding photography Jun 9, 11, 8:36 a.m.
The wedding invites thread reminded me...
I'm going to a pretty informal wedding this weekend and I've said I'll take some photos. They don't want super posed style photos, just a nicely shot record of the day.
I'm taking my dslr but I've not shot 'events' type stuff before. I'm not a professional photographer but experienced as most designers are.
Any tips from those that have done weddings before? Also any tips for getting good results on a dull/rainy day since that's what the forecast is predicting
thanks

Feedback on new photography site Feb 2, 12, 2:54 p.m.
Hey guys,
Would appreciate your feedback on my new website.
We've increased the image size from 800 to 900 px so the images will appear slightly blurry. We're using the images from my old website for now.

London Photography Scene Jun 20, 11, 12:26 p.m.
Greetings and Salutations QBN'ers,
My husbands job is sending us to London indefinitely and we're super excited. I'm a photographer coming from a small town in California (Santa Barbara) and looking to grow as an artist.
My question to you all Londoners is whats is the photo scene out there like? Are there jobs out there in Advertising or Magazines? I'm seeking a bit of insight as to what to expect when looking for work either for a company or if I happen to start my own small studio.
Thanks!
Photography Q Aug 20, 11, 11:43 a.m.
Just reading this about focal length having no real world bearing on DOF - http://www.luminous-landscape.co…
Am I being stupi or is this simply because he is moving further away from the subject which means the DOF gets larger... So basically moving back (and giving a wider dof) is offsetting the fact the focal length is going up (and giving a shorter dof)?
Panoramic Photography Jul 12, 11, 5:22 p.m.
Anyone ever done any?
I hear the best quality shots come from very expensive panoramic cameras, but I'm hoping maybe I can find a relatively cheap lens for my relatively cheap canon.
I keep designing more and more sites with wide photography (keep it above the fold) and would like to get some backgrounds and textures better suited to that format.
I thought this site did a nice job with this format, and you could really do some nice stuff with panoramic photographs.
Locations for Photography (Miami) Jan 23, 12, 12:09 p.m.
Does anybody know any good spots in Miami where I could get some good shots?
Self-portrait photography? Aug 10, 11, 9:15 a.m.
Hello.
While we're on vacation in a couple weeks we're hoping to take some good photos of ourselves (my fiance and I) in Iceland and wondered if anyone had any good tips for taking photos of yourself? I want to get a wireless shutter release before we go, and I'm figuring that just taking a photo of her to make sure it looks good, then getting in the photo on a timer would be suitable.
But are there any tips you have? Probably lots of landscape shots with nice backgrounds, wide angle lens. Would definitely be fun.
Photography site (help) Feb 7, 12, 11:45 a.m.
I was dumb and said yes to helping a friend put his photography portfolio together. I'm more of a designer and have little desire to more work that I have to on this...
So I'm looking for easy, but solid solutions to putting a site together. Preferably pre-templated options that can be customized or tweaked. A co-worker mentioned SildeShowPro but it seems pretty involved...
Any thoughts or suggestion to help my lazy ass out would be awesome...
