Liking the brush/painting images, would like to see more of the Josef Albers inspired stuff.

    Amazing? +1

Talk about riding on a name you made for yourself years back.
If this was anyone elses portfolio of splattered paint and random photos and unexplained/out of context logos/typography it wouldn't get a second look. Certainly wouldnt make the EC!

They are high quality images that load in quite fast though - so cudos for the jpeg compression.

Is there a name for this kind of technique/effect?

    http://www.trueistrue.com/images/20100111_01_000000.jpg

I've seen it online quite a lot over the past couple of years (elements of that bloody kdu thang used it quite a lot, right?) and as portions of real world paintings.

It's something I'd quite like to play around with - what do I need?

I'm thinking oils, solvents and a sheet of glass... but perhaps there's a photoshop plugin? ;)

I like portfolios where you simply need to click to see the next image, so I thought that was great.

Maybe the work is reasonably interesting, but there's no context - and the I don't think any concept behind the order / format used to show the work is strong enough to be obvious.

Symmetry / chaos / order, perhaps .. but that's stretching it.

    • -> came across as 'lazy' to me.lukus_W1/5
      It's not a portfolio, perhaps?Corvo22/5
Would you prefer to call it an exhibition? (Personally I think that would be an overstatement)lukus_W3/5
I dunno, I'd just like to have a 'way in' to appreciate these images ..lukus_W4/5
Looking at them now, it seems there's no obvious starting point and no obvious thread linking them.lukus_W5/5

I don't find myself amazed with this work, although I did like a few of the pieces. Art is subjective, though, which is one of its principal differences from design.

Wow, thanks for posting his work site, bzsaw. The stuff there qualifies as amazing, in my opinion. Love it.

This thread kind of underscores the vital issue of design's relationship with art, I think. I feel that so much decent design is informed by a well-rounded knowledge/understanding of art. In design, though, the sheer aesthetics must be secondary to the need to communicate (unless, of course, they are the primary means of communication).
