Circular texture

I need to come up with some type of circular cobblestone or marble texture that is very zoomed out, to be mapped onto an object in 3d that is 80 feet wide. Having a very hard time figuring this one out.
Im not even against doing it in illustrator but not sure how since I tried it already and scaling up the circles as they move out doesnt work, because the tiles get bigger and end up being too big for the model. Looks weird.

Btw that example doesnt work at all. Not nearly large enough, isnt shot from high up enough.

This is a vector image I could work with but like I said if I take these circles and duplicate and scale, they start getting too large. I need them to scale up but the tiles themselves stay the same size. How the heck would you pull this off?

Looks like you need to copy and paste one brick, and literally build out concentric circles manually, until there's enough surface area for your needs. Time consuming yes, but it will constrain the perspective you need.
- I would need to this for hundreds of them one by one. I might have a stroke doing it like that.CygnusZero4

make a pattern brush with a rectangle and apply to a circle.
copy/scale circle without scaling the stroke.- Hard to picture what youre describing.CygnusZero4
- That’s what I was thinking, should workPhanLo

Make a rectangle, drag and drop into brushes. choose pattern brush.
make some adjustments (sorry got the german version installed):
Apply the brush to the stroke of a circle:
Modify the stroke width to your liking and scale/copy the circle without scaling the stroke (double click scale tool to set this option)
(figuring out how much you need to scale is tricky)

^ When I do that method and scale up the copied/pasted stroke, its filling in the lines between the blocks. How did you avoid that?
- Abstand 5% in the options for the pattern brush.uan
- Also is theres a way to add more blocks to a stroke to make them all smaller?CygnusZero4

- you can mess with the stroke width to make them smaller. (Kontur Stärke in the last picture)uan
- Ok nm figured out the amount but not how to avoid them getting larger as I scale the stroke up.CygnusZero4
- Lol sorry man I got the scaling now. Something went wrong with it. Now i have to figure out how to make them all different shades.CygnusZero4
- doubleclick on the scale tool and deselect scale stroke (2nd in options). once deselected it stays this way.uan
- instead of 1 square, make a brush with multiple squares in different colors.
and mess with the 'Einfärben' in the brush tools option (2nd image).uan

+1 uan. My brush element is black square with a white stroke which gives you the gaps.
For the brush setup; pattern style with auto overlap on the corner settings and Colorization: tint. Also keep stroke scaling off.
I made this with a blend, adjust the steps and stroke weight accordingly. Illustrator didn't shit itself either!
After expanding the blend, I changed the stroke colour on alternate rings. Texture etc I guess you can add elsewhere : )

Updated with uan's mixed-colour brush technique.
To get round the annoying consistency on the right hand side, after expanding them all a Transform Each 45° rotation with random selected fixed it.

- It's still got a bit of regularity but a bigger random rotation value may help.MrT
- or a 'wider' brush with more variation in it. I guess there'll always be repetition with this method...MrT
- Youre freakin awesome man, thanks! This is one of those things I expected it to be easy but was much harder than I anticipated.CygnusZero4
- Nice!Chimp
- oh that!s nice :) well done MrT, well done!sted

^ Is there a way to edit that so that the inner blocks are lighter greys and the strokes are black? Im checked it in illustrator and not sure how. Not an illustrator expert.
- Highlight something then Select > same stroke colour then change to what you likesausages
- Lighter greys, select all and hit the "recolour artwork" buttonsausages
- Time difference is against us I think but hit me up. I'll set it up for you if you like. It's slightly weird and not very intuitive Illustrator stuff.MrT

It's like this is a design forum or something.

Bump - Cygnus give us a shout, happy to set up and send you what you need or at least get it close enough for you to work with. Info in comment below : )

^ Sorry man, checked out for a bit working on a huge VR project. I think I got it. Only thing I need to figure out is once the whole thing is made, is there a way to go back in and adjust the stroke brush? I noticed a little too much space between one of the squares.
- And also if I wanted to round the corners of all these squares, can I do that without redoing the entire graphic?CygnusZero4
- alter the brush and you should be goldenhans_glib
- Cant see how to alter the brush that was already used.CygnusZero4
