Hey this iPhone app i built just went live. It allows you to tag, find and upload street art in Sydney and Melbourne. If you're based in either of these cities it would be great if you could download it and help us fill the database.
oh and it's free!

You in Melbourne Ancillary? If you are, do you know a little hippy girl with dreads named Alice? It's a long-shot but i have to ask.
- I was living in Melbs for the last 6 years, just moved back to Syd. I know a lot of little hippy girls with dreads, but none I can recall are called AliceAncillary

Planning to go global with it eventually. We're focusing on Sydney and Melbs to start, just to get it right. Hopefully next release we'll expand out.

heehee, the plan is to go global, we just wanted to concentrate on the hubs of street art in Australia for initial launch, keep it focused.
There is already a global street art app, and although it's great, I think it loses something by trying to be too broad, I'm involved in the street art community down here and I'm really focused on trying to make something for us, not trying to be everything for everybody. When we do expand, we'll have a product that's useful because we've had lots of feedback from users, not trying to second guess the functionality people want.
Anyway it's free so feel free to make your own, it's not like we're making money from it :)

won't the police use this to locate and just cover up all this "street art"

It's a good question fooler, I really can't say. I know in Australia police don't actively "hunt" for street art or artists and in my experience they aren't involved in locating and painting over street art, it's generally councils. Councils already know the major locations and they'll act on complaints. I don't think we can stop councils from painting over street art, but what this app does is act as a repository of all the street art that has been, so it lives on digitally, even after it's been painted over.
