I don't own an Ipad but I would be curious to know what people think about using an Ipad to showcase work during an interview.
Good idea/Bad idea?
I think it would be a great way to showcase web work (websites/banners/emails) without losing quality compared to having it printed.
Anyone know anyone who has done this and how well it worked out during the interview?

If dealing with a digital image industry, I'd say it's good. Shit has to look good online just as much as on paper these days. It may not be ideal to go in with just an iPad, but a book and an iPad seems like a good idea. And if half way thru the interview you get the feeling they would turn their nose up at an iPad, you simply don't present it.

Are your banners Flash?
I hate Jobs' shiny stupid toy. I would bring a laptop, since that's what you can actually do work on.However, if you want to bring an iPad, you can use Cloudbrowse to view Flash or iTeleport as a VNC to show Flash.

Might be tough if you're presenting to a room and you have to pass it around (versus a projector)

Good Idea. Have your portfolios in iBooks

if you are a web designer, the iPad is probably your worst enemy.
If they asked you to show them an actual functioning website you might be in trouble.I'd say stick to the laptop. If you plan to have everything arranged in some sort of photo sequence that you can flick while talking, then this might be a good idea, I see it better for a photographer
- Good point. If you develop for iPad, then it would be appropriate. For designers, it's just limiting.CyBrain

Google has Ipad??

I can see more negative results from this than positive. Having the interviewer hold the ipad and page through your work is cool, but not having your work at 100% scale would piss me off a bit.
Just a thought.

You should have it all online at a portfolio site. Then they can continue looking at it after you leave. Make it easy for them to hire you.

why not just put it on your gameboy advance?
then they can pass it round and enjoy it eh? eh??

What's more is that you should take the time after each project to update your portfolio. Don't be the guy that has to rush around and slap something together. Make your portfolio easy to update and add to it often.

I fail to see why not? If you can present concepts to clients on an iPad, why wouldn't you at an interview? Especially, if you have pieces of work you cannot leave with the prospective employer (nda, etc.).
"If they asked you to show them an actual functioning website you might be in trouble."
Are you kidding? It's even better if you can show a working website on iPad—goes to show your cross-platform deployment skills.
- agree but also have the online portfolio for when you leave...tgqt

I saw a kid interview at my work with an ipad to showcase his print work..bad idea.
For interactive/video i dont see the harm in it.

Using or showing up with an hanging pad,
can see 50 reasons why it will go bad...

I bought one back in the summer specifically for an interview with Waste Management to showcase identity, web, and interactive. I was offered the job that day. I ended up turning it down to focus on my company. I still use it during client presentations, and they seem to enjoy it and ask several questions about it. For others in the meeting, it's an icebreaker "how do you like your iPad, etc..".

As long as your not showing any work with Flash in it, I can not see the harm in using the iPad to present your work. If you decide to use the iPad be sure to utilize the fullscreen and make a customized slideshow of your work.

Sounds like a gimmick.

good I say, easier to pass around than a laptop. Take the originals / prints too to show how the work translates to print

The bottom line Wade...
If you have really good work and you are talented it does not matter how you present your work!
