To my friends in the UK, what is an old school candy, that can still be purchased in bulk?
The target audience is male over the age of 30. We're going to have the candies at events where we showcase restored Land Rover Defenders.
Is there a better choice than toffee?

Not sure i'm convinced that a potential purchaser of a presumably-£100k+ vehicle would be swayed by some shite sweeties, but what do I know?
- i dunno - a bar of kendal mint cake should do the trickhans_glib
- i'm a sucker for a 1/4lb of chewing nuts, mehans_glib
- Strange take. It's just a British themed giveaway at an event dude!HAYZ1LLLA
- Who said anything about being swayed? And why would they be crappy candies? It's just a small detail to enhance the brand. As you were.canoe
- Haven't we talked about sensory marketing Nairn?canoe
- @hayzilla - the event's probably in the UK.
@canoe - i just don't see a 'manly men man' with actual purchasing intent being encouraged by a sweetie.Nairn - maybe something that appealed to pretensions of rugged English gentlemanliness - like getting a Guy Ritchie haircut, shitting on a fox or fingering a squirrelNairn
- Right. That's what we're doing - showing the prospect the price, then offering him a sweet to see if that persuades him. You're taking the piss.canoe
- I get it, you don't like the demographic, but this is really about traditional sweets men like in England. And it's not part of a fooking sales pitch mate!canoe
- Nairn has been hitting the crack pipe a bit too hard today LOLHAYZ1LLLA

If it was me... I'd set up an old school sweet shop / counter. People used to buy "quarters" where the shop keeper would take out a tub of SWEETS (don't call it candy) and weight out on a weighing scales a "quarter" of whatever you chose. It was then handed to you in a small brown paper bag. All those sweets can still be bought in bulk.
Something like this.

being serious for a second, if you want to do it properly, who is your target market?
for instance if you're after the outdoors-y lifestyle adventurer (the original image of landrover) then you could do worse than kendal mint cake. it's proper british, proper traditional, was taken on all major expeditions in the first half of the 20th century - hillary took it up everest , so it's unassailably associated with old style british derring-do. and it comes in handy dispenser packs:
https://mintcake.co.uk/collectio… for more info
or if your target is more of a metro-ponce who'd never dream of getting it dirty, or worse - those ghastly wideboy green-laners who like to tear up the countryside and generally ruin the place for everyone else, then you'd need something more appropriate for them - sugar-free somethings for the metros, strychnine tabs for the wideboys, perhaps
- oh btw it's not actual cake, more a solid bar of sugary minty gorgeousness...hans_glib
- ha! yah, thanks, the "major expeditions" sounds like a good fit!canoe
- Hans_glib middle.classes expeditionary 4x4s, yo. Upvoted.Nairn
- And chocolate covered too please if I may. Not that I can afford one of these Chelsea tractors, mind.MrT
- that's the After Eight target marketsted
- NO!chocolate covered is for urbanite chavs. us mountaineering explorers will only use the original. tho i do quite like the more modern brown sugar version.hans_glib
- (that's the metro-ponce part of me speaking...)hans_glib

Kendal Mint Cake is the supreme being of british sweets.
Also after being in America for 13 years, I am absolutely in awe of how good a chilled bar of dairy milk tastes.
- you've been in the us too ong. dairy muck has been ruined by the yank takeoverhans_glib
- ^ this is true and an national disgrace. However, apparently the Irish cadbury factories still produce Dairy Milk using the old recipe...Morning_star
- However, Cadbury's (bought in England) remains light years better than any American chocolate.DaveO
