Probably the hardest design job I've ever been presented with. How do you convey an iconic image within 16x16 pixels? Take a look at your browser window above.... the small ones are all 16x16 baby.

very easily and skillfully.

It's fun man. You just have to get used to working in those confines. It gets easier as time goes on, there are definitely some approaches and tricks.

there are only 256 pixels, each of which can only be one of 256 colors
don't over think it

Certainly tricky is a good word to use. It's been a trial-by-fire situation. My current method is to build it in illustrator then optimize it out to photoshop and then clean it up from there. Anyone have a better approach?

The number of these icons I've drawn is approaching the thousands.

Ask that crazy guy that does the permutations. He hasn't been here lately.

i've drawn things large and used the "best for reduction" whatever it's called option in photoshop image size to reduce it so it stays crispy.

I draw them one of 2 ways: draw the image at 32x32 using shape layers and then resize down. Or pixel by pixel using selections, gradients, and the pencil tool. Have fun :D.
