A friend asked me to design a site for her yoga business.
She’ll need to have a calendar/booking page.
Also an about page.
And a section to sell some merch.
What’s the best platform for this?

If it were me I'd do it in self hosted wordpress because there are simple plugins for both of those things.
Although if she is going to manage/admin it too then it probably depends on how much of that will be needed as the block editor is not user friendly.

You can make a clean, simple website in Shopify with one of their templates for something as low bandwidth as a yogi shop.
Wordpress ecommerce used to be convoluted, gotta get a merch account, etc. Shopify is literally plug-n-play. Maybe WP got an update with their ecommerce tools. Yo no se.
- WordPress never handled that side of things so you'd always have to find a third party solution...PayPal or Stripe probably the easiest.yuekit

"yoga business.", eh? How unique!

https://www.squarespace.com/THESE are the platforms of entrepreneurial women and include hosting; some functionality is paywalled.
I prefer WordPress with DIVI (V5 now!) as a builder to get ultra customized, BUT like @yuekit said in the notes above, you need a 3rd party payment integration AND it gets a bit bloated pretty fast. Self hosted, lots of free plugins, BUT anything with any real functionality is paywalled as well.
Godspeed @doggydoggdog!
- Perhaps SHE can do it herself?! Is she paying you!? Again, the former 2 platforms are pretty DIY from my understanding...ideaist
