I'm on the fence between a UGreen DXP6800 or the DXP8800. I think the 6 bays should be fine, at least for the near term, but will I regret it later by not future proofing my setup?
Has anyone here experienced the regret of not getting a big enough storage solution, or have too much storage that goes unused. I write this as I stare at a large format printer that is covered in a layer of dust.
I do some video and photography work in an on again off again manner. Mostly I'm just a data hoarder who needlessly stores projects that have paid the bills but will never be featured in a portfolio.

I have a 1TB Synergy NAS, which I use for projects I'm currently working on or for those that are "ongoing." I duplicate my PC's 2TB HDD for ongoing projects and I use another 4TB HDD for general backups (and a bunch of external ones for private or old material).
I make weekly backups, both to the backup drive and to the NAS.
If I have to go on vacation or visit a client, I sync the NAS.
I have Google One with 100GB, which is more than enough for everyday use.
I've never had any problems with data loss.

Dropbox: set it and forget it!
Been thinking about a local solution though, ONLY to speak to it around QBN and other technology natives who pride themselves on multi-tiered solutions to everything.
LaCie drives still a thing?!

I don't back up no more
(except for photos who live on a crucial X10 pro external hd).but If I needed a new NAS, I would be looking at pocket nas or mini nas nowadays.

Just ordered that new UGREEN NASync DH2300 yesterday + two 8TB Seagate Iron Wolf drives to use as RAID 1. Drives have arrived, NAS yet to arrive. £450 all in and seems to have most of the features of the more expensive UGREEN NAS
Paying £20p/m for 4TB dropbox atm. Should pay for itself in a couple of years.
- also OP you are a madman. 6 bay NAS not enough... my current NAS is 7 years old, 1TB and cost almost as much as this 8TB. why overspec?kingsteven
- So will you have something offsite too?kalkal
- It is remotely accessible, modern NAS is like hosting your own cloud service. It's a computer in its own right and can run custom servers using dockerkingsteven
- i mostly need NAS because I work with video across 3 computers and my 1TB and cloud uploading not cutting it but will work out something with backup...kingsteven
- there are backup services offering 8TB for £4p/m in the UKkingsteven
