To the Germans in the group or those with knowledge of the cities. We are heading to Germany on Saturday for ten days! Our two AirBnBs will be split up between Frankfurt first half and Munich second half. No day trips planned for Berlin this time.
Looking for cool stuff to do or see in the city or day trips by train. Some day trips are planned already but would love to hear some recommendations.
Food, beer, wine, shopping, record stores, camera shop, photography, architecture, tours, castles. Basically all the touristy shit but hoping I can get a little insight into areas to definitely see or stay away from.
Does anyone know if I can actually buy a Leica camera cheaper here than in the states? lol.
Also would love to meet up for a beer with anyone in the area!
Danke!

Leave your wife in the apartment for a day and go on a bike ride:

Mainz is a few minutes from Frankfort by train, check out the Gutenberg museum.

And while you're there eat at Heiliggeist, a restaurant converted from a 17th century hospital.

Lots of museums on the southern banks of the river in Frankfurt, also a nice place for a stroll.
Try to avoid some streets near the main station, unless you want to see junkies.
The city is quite small, basically you can walk almost everywhere. Try some local food at one of the famous cider pubs.
I was born there but have been living abroad for 20 years, but SimonFfm would be a good guide I guess, as he is also a bit into photography I've heard.
Unfortunately no football at this time of year, otherwise I would have recommended a visit to a Frankfurt home match.
If you are into nature, there are a few nice areas not too far like Taunus mountain range (more like hills really) to the north or Odenwald a bit further to the south. These places might be difficult to visit without a car though.
I will check with some friends if there are any interesting events during your visit (June 28 - July 2 ?)
