I was thinking a little about the jaguar logo, and while I agree that it’s not good, I think I may understand where the inspiration is coming from.
The most interesting (only interesting?) thing they’ve released in decades are the Waymo cars. Of course most people will only know the Waymo brand as the self driving tech but it’s still a jaguar.
Are they trying to lean into tech? Waymo is going to be massive, could kill Uber and Lyft. Easily. So jaguar might be trying to hook themselves to the back of that train. Could be a growth driver.
Hence, the goofy tech logo that doesn’t even feel like a tech company. Not surprising that they failed at the rebrand. Theyre trying to look like a tech company but they’re not one. We’ve all had clients like that — where the don’t embrace who they are. The resulting creative is usually blah on arrival.
- Interesting take.
The trend with EVs is indeed to make the cars look more friendly, even to the extreme - toy carsgrafician - Waymo isn’t a car company but I’m sure they’re concerned with look and feel********
- agreed. They need a logo that nests tightly in their phone app UIhotroddy
- Who the fuck cates what they intended.cannonball1978
- I bet this kind of rationalization emerged somewhere down the line, but we're still witnessing decades of brand building being thrown away.sted
- I'm with sted. A luxury brand is earned and a goldmine once it has been earned. I hope they know what they're doing.skinny_puppy
- Interesting take.

Any designers here hold patents? Was it worth it? Did it earn any money directly or indirectly?
I have some ideas for utility patents but
a) usually safe to assume that if I have an idea, many other people already had that idea
and
b) I can’t see a path to get companies to implement the design and pay licensing feesTell me your patent stories.
- A lawyer friend told me, even with a patent you will need money for a trial to defend your right. In Canada is around 250k the trialSalarrue
- UI too easy to copy, can't enforce copyrights
IBM, Meta, Google, Samsung, etc. hold patents for even the most basic components of UI like carouselsgrafician - They look something like this:
https://patents.goog…grafician - ooof! lemme tell you a story about a shoebox thread you can find somewhere in the bowels of this site... J/Kjonny_quest_lives
- Oh yeah that shoebox. Ha! That was an idea without real value, though....********
- he had a utility patent though so it is somewhat relevant i just don't want to bump the thread... the sleeper must not awakenjonny_quest_lives
