What DSLR should I buy for product and lifestyle photography?
Is a Canon 5D worth it?
Is there an alternative that's cheaper?Do I get more than one lens.
I want to take great photos.

Just about any full-frame digital camera from the last 10 years will be just fine, they really haven't improved much.
If lifestyle photography means people, then the 5D is the one to get for solid autofocus. You can probably get just 1 good zoom lens. Something like a 24-70 F2.8 will give you a lot of flexibility. Next might be a 70-200 F2.8 for more fashion-focused work (less wide-angle distortion). or a macro lens for close-up food/product stuff.
Try to buy used if you are just dipping your toe in the water. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

Can’t go wrong these days. Just make sure you get a lens

use a 5D mk3 for home and mk4 for work.. both solid workhorses.. if i had to choose i would go the mk4 ..
lens would go for the 24-70mm 2.8 L as good allrounder.
depends a bit on what your shooting i guess.I have the 16-35 2.8, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 USM IS .. but most of the time its the 24-70 on body
that said have the 24-105mm 4L kit lens on my work camera and it aint no slouch either.. especially with the IS ..
- when I say work, I mean the camera I got when i started my job was a 5D mk4..autoflavour
- I'm still using my Mk2. I know the ISO numbers have improved but I'm too cheap right now to spend another $2300.CyBrainX
