Ask Europe a Question...

Potentially, yes. Not likely. I hope.

The harm to the EU from Brexit was a known-known pre-referendum and I assume our political masters here in the UK were well aware that they actually do hold some pretty strong cards, despite the incessant bleating of the liberal press. My problem with this is at what cost to good relations? It might end up a a bit of a Pyrrhic victory.

Brexit was a shock to the peoples of the EU (perhaps not the political classes) and quieted a lot of the doubters outside of the UK, but people tend to forget that countries such as France and Italy do have significant percentages of people who teeter-totter on their own exit ambitions, so if the wrong sort of fates align the EU might be in a much weaker position than we'd like to believe.

it's all so stupid. Clearly we're stronger together and clearly the future multi-polar world is one in which we have the potential for greater struggle against more powerful contestants.

    • How long have you been here, Nairn? If the post you're responding to is divisible by 20, don't refer to it with a fucking arrow.Nairn

There are reports circulating that Brexit could harm the EU more than the UK, as a hard Brexit could further depress the EU economy at an inopportune time due to covid.

What say ye? Could the EU break apart?

    • Nope. But UK will fall apart, in all ways possible.shapesalad
    • Nope. But UK will break apart and Ireland and Scotland would join the EU.grafician
    • really there's not much chance of irish reunification in the next decade unless there's a revolution in the politics of the republickingsteven
    • could easily see Scottish independence, and they'll be better off for it.kingsteven

Has anyone here migrated to the UK from Ireland, Netherlands, or Scandanavia from another EU country? How easy or hard was it for you to:

    get a job
    attend uni
    acquire a national insurance number
    access the NHS
    open a current account
    find a flat

Other folks, how about travelling around within the EU countries generally. How easy was it to integrate into your new EU country? Is it true that within the Schengen zone you don't even show your EU residence card because it's border free? How would they know you are a national then?

    https://europa.eu/youreurope/cit…

I'd like to attend uni over there, is why I'm asking.

    • *to the UK from Ireland, Netherlands, or Scandanavia.cherub
    • you have to show ID when entering the zone, then when you're in, you can move anywhere in it.ESKEMA
    • Portugal. Easy. Move asap. Best country in EU.shapesalad

-What are the most basic human rights you can think of? Name say, 4 or 5.

-If a person finds his/her way into a country having gotten there illegally, what rights does he/she deserve in relation to native citizens?

-Is there such thing as temporary rights?

    • Crikey, that's the spirit?Nairn
    • Native citizens like First Nation peoples or the Aborigines or Native Americans?face_melter

    - How many other European countries still have a king?
    5:
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden
    King Harald V of Norway
    King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands
    King Philippe of the Belgians
    King Felipe VI of Spain

there's a bunch more with queens, princes and shit like that.

    - Why so gay?

Gay people are fun to hang with.

    - why are the british so universally hated?

British people are not hated, british cunts with no respect for their surroundings that act like drunk colonialists are. If you think spending some coins in another country gives you the right to be a cunt, it’s because you are one.

    - What are the most basic human rights you can think of? Name say, 4 or 5.
    1. Right to live
    2. Right to education
    3. Right to vote
    4. Right to your own body
    5. Right to call British people cunts

    - If a person finds his/her way into a country having gotten there illegally, what rights does he/she deserve in relation to native citizens?

Borders are stupid. Everyone deserves the same basic rights regardless of where they come from. The right to move freely anywhere should be the norm.

    - Is there such thing as temporary rights?

In what context? Like you have the right to remain silent upon arrest?

    - When is episode 3 for world wars?
    Soon™

    - I know it depends on which EU country you live in, but for YOUR country, is air conditioning the norm in most residential buildings and cafes and such?
In Portugal, not really. There’s a lot of it but definitely not the norm (poor people don’t have AC)
It’s hot in the summer and cold in winter, just like nature intended. Dress accordingly.

    - Are your fizzy drinks served with ice or do you have to request it?
Depends where you order. Might have to request it.

    - What things in your country do you feel are overpriced?
    Highways, Gasoline

    - If you rent a flat and the plumbing breaks, who pays for the repairs?
Usually the landlord, but depends on the contract.

    - All bullshit aside, do you suppose you have the UK in a vulnerable position over Brexit and are eager to exploit them now?
Not eager to exploit, but I’ll grab some popcorn and watch it unravel.

The Obama nomination/award was weird only a couple of months into his first term. Now this just makes a complete mockery of it.
