A cinematic history mixed with contemporary art.
The concept of female neurosis that proliferated in 19th century literature and extended in 20th century cinema become such a self-fulfilling prophecy that well-ajustes, secure and good-humoured female characterisation was seen as an appealing but improbable alternative to reality.
From the roots fin de siecle culture grew the stereotype of female emotional and mental development that we would encounter again and again throughout cinematic history.
