- If I had a charcoal roof I’d do that in an instant.mg33
- By the way, what website did you use for that? I’m impressed you found one that could simulate brick.mg33
- ^ he just colorized your pic, it's the same brickGnash

- You're going to have to redo your roof at some point by the looks of it, don't base your decisions on something so impermanent.ben_

Nice place! I think it looks pretty good as-is. It's hard to tell from the photos but maybe you can do something with the window framing to give it a little more personality?
Maybe a more bold color choice for your front door and then a few subtle embellishments to match?
You've also got a lot of untapped potential with your landscaping, but I'm guessing that in Chicago you can't really count on that for year-round aesthetics.

you'll love whatever sells fastest and highest bids at the end of the day.

go for best bang for the buck - always.

With the roof staying and the color change being minimal, I'd suggest spending your money elsewhere. Consider how long you plan on staying there too. Painting brick isn't always loved by buyers. We just flipped one just like this and we decided against painting for the same reason: Brownish/orange roof and no major ROI. Siding might be doable, since you don't have that much.
Maybe spend on outdoor livings space in back + fence?
- we're planning on dying here one day. Hopefully one day far away... :Dmg33

@ first glance I noticed you don't have a water table on your brick work, im guessing it's because its on the grass maybe?

check out some of these (older projects are the renovations) http://www.etchbuilt.com/
- Man come on... I'd kill for any of those. :) My house isn't suited for that at the moment.mg33
- This is great. The right mid-century modern home would work great like this.

Our friends went this route which turned out really good - they do plan on doing the roof when it's time to match better, but would be dumb money to replace for no reason.

Because your roof looks like Cherokee Red, I would look at FLW color palette for Taliesin, as this sandstone look is identicalSecond I would clean up the lines, remove the small schrubs as it will make the house larger and create a smooth look. I would even look to move the drainpipe to the back, replace fixture, chairs and paint the door.
Lastly look into low, colorful xeriscape to finish it off as the highlight is your lawn.
Nice place overall, those are just some thoughts...
- Or paint those chairs Lion's Mane!!! That would be automatically sharprobotron3k
- Fixtures are one our list for sure. Those plants on the corner are only just now blooming; they get about 3 1/2 feet tall in full bloom.mg33
- And thanks so much for this color palette! Great mix of colors and I've not seen these before.mg33
- Like it in principle but there's nothing historic about the house, so why try and emulate?ben_

Chicago, right? I didn't think there were homes like this there
- Thanks! suburbs northwest of Chicago by about 18 miles. Lots of ranch homes and such.mg33

Paint the brick siding, window frames, chimney, gutters/downs in satin black.Paint the slat siding 90% dark gray. Paint the door and the two adirondacks blood red.
- LOL. I'm not Scarabin. :Dmg33
- Vantablack house, perhaps?
https://www.cnn.com/…mg33 - Not Scarabin hmmmm... ok try this... tone it all down by 50% - so light gray, dark ray, brushed nickel frames and fixtures, front door blood red. And the chairsprophetone
- And the chairs... "set them on fire?" LOLmg33
- chairs... blood redprophetone
- or contrasting gray I guessssss....prophetone

I'll add that my biggest concern is doing something that looks okay with the brownish red shingles. I'd love to replace them but also don't want to spend the money to replace a perfectly good roof.
- You could get your roof sprayed to change the colour? Would also increase the life of the tiles.PhanLo
- I looked into that but seems the consensus is to not do that, because it eventually wears off from sun / winter.mg33
- Ah fair play, the tiles on my roof are starting to go, just slowly disintegrating into sand. Couple of folk round where I live had had their roofs sprayed.PhanLo
- ya, don't spray roof. BUT, don't base your house colours on a roof you will be replacing eventually. looks like the south side is showing wear anywayGnash

Any of you have experience designing or updating your home's exterior?
We're about to get the brick stained on our house after realizing this winter that it's a little bland with the tan bricks, light beige siding, and limestone around the door and chimney. We decided against getting new siding because $$ but still doing the brick. If I were doing the siding, I was going to do this great blue / gray color, and bricks in a corresponding or darker grey.
But we're keeping the siding; it's in great shape and we'd rather spend that $ on a new backyard fence.
What would you suggest here? Grey? Some kind of darker brownish stone color?
