My ten year plan (at 30) was to have a small design studio that employed 2-3 people and enabled me enough time and freedom to spend with my family.
Have the studio, employ freelancers only and have a ton of time with the family.
I do think I could work harder to try and find new clients. Currently do fuck all in that regard. As such will be steal some of that time back to focus on brand development of the studio and trying out some new business development.
I know there have been topics/responses around this, but would be interested to hear others un/successful attempts at it.

I would say yes, but even better. I am still doing design, but in the comforts of my own home without a commute.

Not really. Thought I would be an art director (or something to that effect), but I'm coming up on 4 years as a programmer. I still design interfaces, but I'm basically just re-purposing the same Bootstrap based interface all the time (I work on intranet based apps mostly).
Honestly, I love it. Had a couple programming courses in college, but I hated them. Did the nights/weekends thing working on small projects here and there, and really grew to like it. 21 year old me would have never predicted this.

Happy doing what I'm doing and don't know if I expected to be working in UX long ago, but in hindsight it definitely feels like the right line of work based on all the hats I've worn in my career.
I wanted to be an architect but school chewed me up and spit me out. Switched to advertising and focused on interactive design. Worked in marketing, consulting, design ever since and what I do now feels like it encompasses several areas of interest. I don't see my role as a singular UX designer role; as I've moved up I've done pitch work, strategy work, photography, etc. and it all keeps things interesting. I like to tell people I'm a jackass of all trades and a master of some. LOL.

I would say I'am capable of doing more than i expected i would be able to do by now. In regards to scripting and development. There are just so many new directions to explore than i even thought about when i first started. The overwhelmingness and second-guessing halts me from time to time.
I am slowly moving towards teaching my self new skills (UE4 development) to get away from what i am currently working on (web and e-commerce ). RIP Flash.

I'm mostly doing what I hoped to be doing for a long time which is motion graphics. In the past there was way less market for video work but it's getting there. I'm surprised there isn't more demand at this point. Without being hard on myself, one thing holding me back at this point is hardware. You can't be on a Mac without a 3rd party renderer if you're doing a decent amount of 3D and I do a lot. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. I'm just not technically equipped to accomplish this so I'm looking into a beast PC and getting Redshift.
