no... this is not 'where design is going'...
This is Br3tt B@sh-esque at best... business-minded people who lack any true conceptual creative thinking... fortunately they attract the same type of client... ... let them have each other!!!!
Nothing to worry about.

It's just sad how little value people put in some things. I have clients putting up $50m buildings all over the place but won't spend more than $50 for branding.
I know another company pulling in $300m per year that uses Fiverr religiously.
It's gotta be a hell of a challenge to convince companies to spend 6+ figures on a logo.
- Hah! I know that bilullshit. We had a project, 'flagship' office. The logo is a handwritten version of the name, (poorly) traced in Illustrator. Makes me puke.face_melter
- The building design was watered down to the worst boring shite by NCC for cost reasons. An architect did the logo! Was never even asked to work on it. NCC cuntsface_melter
- Design is dead. The money is in data... until the AI's do that for us too.ETM
- It's hilarious - the building looks dated even though only 3 years old and the signage logo is something from the mid 90's. But NCC flipped it for a huge profitface_melter
- The unfortunate part is the $300m company paid good money for their branding, but it's really horrible shit. Really bad. It's just a big mess out there!formed

I'll tell you where it's *trying* to go. Register a new domain name without privacy and prepare for the onslaught of calls, texts, and emails soliciting logo and website design and development services.
It's worse than driving through the parking lot entrance of Home Depot..
- Experiencing this right now...no, I don't want to know how to maximize my SEO..fuck off.see_thru
- me too omg so many spams in past week for two domains sooooo many - improve your seo, $1 logo, domain registry deadline!!, $2 logo etcprophetone

low-end garbage.

The C B fitness logo in their portfolio could cause their client some problems with Golds gym.
- golds gym logo is ripped of.sureshot

Design must go the opposite route of this. Design needs to step up and actually say no to clients and explain why. The client isn't always right and if you don't tell him that, you're bad at your job. This is suicide, it's putting design competing in the same league as an AI (endless meaningless cheap work) doing tasks that are suited for an AI, the AI will win in the end. Designers need to make themselves relevant, not the opposite.
- There are still letterpress shops and silkscreeners and such; "human-aided design" will persist as a niche at the very least.i_monk

A lot of production work could easily be replaced by AI/automation taking prepared elements and following some simple rules to compose ads. The web has already surrendered to templates and the next step is feeding content into software to populate those templates without much human input. Fonts are being designed by AI using existing typefaces as seeds. Neural networks could start encroaching on creative direction too. Copywriting is already formulaic ("At __$companyname_ we believe __$value__, that's why we __$USP__.") and could be done by sophisticated Markov software.

As pointed out above, data combined with design, design that can be proven to drive data, etc. I just read a bunch about the consolidation with large ad agencies buying up small boutique design firms. This way they can have "cool" designers but back it all up with superior data and a full spectrum of services that can reach across the world.
I think it'll be interesting to see how much "data" means more money. I am fairly naive on the subject and should be learning more about it...just in case people want to paste links :-)

Caveat emptor. You get what you pay for.

the FAQ's are awesome
We’ve created a very streamlined process and only focus on production level graphic design. We won’t do complex jobs like original logos, complicated layout work or website/digital design.
- monNom0
"We’ll work through your requests as fast as possible" <-- That looks like the key to making this all work. Yes you may get 'unlimited service', but if it takes an 'unlimited' amount of time to get to a satisfactory result, that's not great value.
The Golds Gym rip-off right at the top of their portfolio is shocking. I wonder if they're just arbitraging crowdsource design sites?

Maybe something in their model is a glimpse of one possible direction design could go, but their work is absolute shite. As is their name and logo.
That's a No from me.

This is what's happening here in NZ and Australia.
Companies have slashed money they spend on marketing and brand and the result is the agencies are undercutting to stay alive. They are also under serious treat the large accounting firms who are offering branding and digital communications as part of their consultancy advice. There's a lot more money in consulting.
The work the agency does get means they need to spend as little time as possible, so they have specialised parts of the industry to get from a-b as quickly as possible.
There are still those clients that want a creative idea but the majority don't really care and just want something cheap and there's an oversupply of designers willing to do things for not much or for free.

I wonder how much will actually change. There are plenty of small/medium businesses that value branding and well designed presentations and will pay for it.
As an architect, I used to worry that cad/bim would take over and there would be little need for architects. Those technologies haven't changed the job landscape at all. If anything, it's opened new doors for some.
The difference is there is a tangible management component that comes with putting a building up. So design is a tiny piece of the pie, but project management, etc., can't be dumbed down.
Rambling, but I wonder how much can be carried over.
