for the first time in almost 10 years I will be back to working on a mac. my company decided to put all designers on one and the new mac book pro just arrived today... now i get to relearn the OS... I am sure its much the same as it was a decade ago.. lol

A strange time to convert to Mac, as it begins to look like devs and then professionals otherwise will start abandoning the platform over coming years unless Apple pulls its snout out of the [very[ lucrative consumer market.

- yup x2. I'm full on Linux for dev work. Wish I would have made the jump years ago.section_014
- I was toying with linux. I'm just too dependant on adobe.err
- 50% of my time is in terminal and sublime the rest is in adobe productserr
- if you want to work in an os closer to linux and with a terminal, OS X is actually a good choice thoughmonospaced
- and yes, even I'm at a point where I can't find an Apple computer that meets my needs as a creative :(monospaced
- My next computer will be a PC. I'm not happy about it but if you use 3D and work with video all day, you're time on Mac is coming to an end.CyBrainX
- If you have any doubt, listen to these guys for a while.
https://www.youtube.…CyBrainX - Interesting, cy, although i think they're slightly over-extrapolating their data points - eg. I don't think we're in the hump of the 'bell curve' of transition.detritus
- ... Yet!
Wasn't 3D always quite PC-centric anyway?detritus - I feel like Hackintosh is the way to go, at least in theory, for me. I want to at least try to have OS X, but it allows a good transition to Windows eventuallymonospaced

I had the new touch bar MacBook pro for a week. Worst week ever with a mac. Returned it for a 2015 and I'm happy AF now.
- I'm on the 2015 and I can't imagine what I'd have to give up to "upgrade" to the new model. Grrr...monospaced
- that touch bar is so fucking stupidJulesvm
- Agreed. I haven't seen it or used it but I don't like it.monospaced
- I suspected it was going to be a bad feature. It didn't seem to add anything useful.CyBrainX

Microsoft adding Bash to Win10 doesn't help the Mac camp on the dev side either. It's obviously not quite what OS X offers, but it satisfies a lot of needs without having to dual boot Linux.
- I'm eager to try this. My gaming PC will be on Win7 until it dies though. I have an i5 Intel Nuc for Linux, and it runs very well.section_014

An Apple user for the last decade, I checked out Surface Pro at a store recently. To my surprise, it seemed an ok device.
Even type display looked oddly acceptable on a dense, Retina-like screen. Normally I can't stand the way Windows renders fonts.
My main gripe was the back part with the fold-out stand. So cheap-plasticky, like it was the back of a kitchen radio from the 90's and would easily break. It was hard to believe it was part of the device itself, not some add-on case.
- what about the dial though? curious minds want to know :)lvl_13
- It was the tablet Surface, not Studio, the swivel Cintiq/iMac thingy. No dial, unless someone nicked it from the store :)raf
- It's solid, mine has shown no signs of wear in years now (SP 3). Mine also feels very, very solid and is great at every angle.formed
