Dudes! I'm also going to be in Santa Barbara for a couple days between Christmas and New Years.
Been there many times, but never with a kid before. Any special recommendations good for active, energetic 2-year-old boys?
I'm thinking:
Let him run around down at the boardwalk by the pier and the skatepark. (And make his mom watch him while his dad cruises a few laps through.)
Take him to the mission where he can explore the big courtyard there.
Any good public parks I should check out?
- What pockets posted is perfect. Kids will love the Zoo. There's even a miniature train you can ride around the entire property. It's quite beautiful.monospaced

Santa Barbara Public Market is great for lunch or picking up some food to go. Lots of different vendors. And a little south in Carpenteria is Santa Claus Beach, which is pretty nice if you're looking for sand and ocean.
Or drive up through the mountains about 30 minutes north and do some wine tasting. Stop at Cold Spring Tavern (in biz since 1886) or Pea Soup Andersen's. Big fan of Sunstone Winery. Or hit up Grand Ave. for a bunch of tasting rooms.

If you can, I highly recommend visiting Lotus Land, a private old Montecito estate with some of the most amazing exotic gardens you'll ever see. They do small tours by appointment only. A true view into the history of rich people and botany in the area. You won't regret visiting Lotus Land.
- Shit. They aren't doing tours while you're there. Damn.monospaced

Grab lunch at East Beach Taco one day. Eat at La Super Rica or Los Agaves too. Take a hike up Cold Springs or Rattlesnake canyons. Watch the sunset at Butterfly Beach. Go wine tasting in the funk zone and walk up state street for some shopping and people watching. Visit the courthouse and the Mission if you're into historical Spanish architecture.
This is my home town and I was just there for Thanksgiving. If you want more tips let me know.
- This is very nice of you mono. Great advice.sureshot
- For sure. It's not an action packed city. It's about enjoying the beauty and the art and the weather. It's about music and wine and good people.monospaced
- I know a couple of other qbn users who live there too. Hopefully they chime in.monospaced
- cold springs is a ways from sbpockets
- @pockets, no, it's right in the heart
https://www.google.c…monospaced - wait, that map isn't right ... it's just off east valley road in 'cito ... just a 5 minute drive from townmonospaced
- what's NOT in Santa Barbara is Freebirds, which is in Isla Vista, a suburb of a completely separate city altogether ;) Goleta isn't SB :)monospaced
- still sb county.. but yea its a small drive.. but those burritos man i tell yapockets
- from dt its more than 5minutes up the 154, but whateverpockets
- I'm not talking about Cold Springs up the 154 in the mountains, I'm talking about the trail/creek in Montecito on East Valley Road. It's a popular SB trail.monospaced
- Just east of Rattlesnake Canyon.monospaced

My old professor has a super slick house up on the hill, staggered three pavilion thing with 20' glass door walls and water roofs (for fire proofing). Not that you can go there, but it brought back fond memories. Thanks. :-)

Santa Barbara...remember it well. Drove there with my then girlfriend...nice lazy day on the beach. Went to the Wharf and had a great meal. Walked back to our grotty motel room...went at it like rabbits. Heard some yelling and screaming around midnight...cops knocked on our door at 1am saying a bloke upstairs had just beaten his partner to death.
One of the weirdest days of my life.
- Crazy. I've never heard of cops waking up hotel guests to alert them to a murder in the next room. Ha!monospaced
- Was a motel. Happened above us. They just wanted to know if we heard or saw anything.BusterBoy
