Mono and mugwart, I’m certain but I think you guys are confusing Mel Gibson’s movie Hacksaw Ridge from 2016 with Clint Eastwood’s horrible movie Heartbreak Ridge.
If so LMAO. Heartbreak Ridge is a garbage movie. Hacksaw Ridge was absolutely amazing in every sense.
- I’m not confusing a thing. That Garfield piece was a total Christian propaganda joke at best.monospaced
- It’s okay to have an opinion on the quality of a meal Gibson film. I personally think it was no good. Couldn’t even finish due to worst dialogue ever in a film.monospaced
- Lol @ Meal Gibsondopepope
- haha autocorrectmonospaced
- Even if it’s not true it’s hilarious I thought you guys might be talking about the wrong movie. :Dmg33
- Attack monospace! Get those christians! Attack! Attack!Hayoth

Watched it last night.
I found it both gripping and annoying.
Gripping in the sense that it captures the sense of helplessness perfectly but annoying that it didn't really explore the disastrous actions of the War Office enough for me.
My grandfather would shudder at the mention of Dunkirk. He wasn't there (I don't think) but had a vehement dislike for British Commanders after his experiences in North Africa and Italy.
Dunkirk should've been about the politicians and military leaders that hung 400K British and French soldiers out to dry and the civilians that saved them.
I remember this every-time I buy a poppy.

And yes, it looked amazing. Apart from the stop-frame plastic model looking Spitfire scene at the end. Really bad.
- He had special contempt for Field Marshal Montgomery, who stood thousands to attention in a desert in 40° degree heat for an entire day for an inspection.monoboy
- Didn't show until late afternoon, 100s had collapsed from sun stroke and it gave their position away to a German spotter plan.monoboy
- They were attacked by dive bombers the next day.monoboy

Watched it this past weekend with great anticipation. Felt a bit let down until I read a bit more about the battle and the movie. I’m honestly shocked to see the variety of reviews that call it the best war movie ever. Absolutely, positively NO WAY that is true. It had drama and suspense but nothing on the scale of all time classic like Saving Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, or even Hacksaw Ridge.
I ended up watching the last third of Dunkirk twice, and while it resonated once I knew more about the story, it was just... not sure what the word is. It wasn’t boring, it just had a pace that was so much different than typical WW2 movies. I think knowing the story helped, otherwise I can understand how many people would have no idea what was going on and think it was boring as hell.
- Not even close to the first 2 you mentioned ... I would also like to give Platoon an honorary mention.Ramanisky2
- Hacksaw Ridge? Apocalypse Now, Bridge over the river Kwai, Merry Christmas mister Lawrence, Laurence of Arabia?mugwart
- Its just modern marketing, the studio pays for certain reviews. They are making Nolan the new Kubrick. I have to be careful here but wonder woman's reviews gotmugwart
- my goat. First female role model ever... Ripley? Sarah Conner? If you know your cinema Meiko Kaji. But its all paid formugwart
- Watched it y'day funnily enough and agree. Visually stunning but felt flat.fadein11
- They totally failed to show how many soldiers were on that beach as well, 400,000. Atonement did that way better. The beach looked empty most of the time.fadein11
- Forgot about AtonementRamanisky2
- Also saw it this week, and I agree with this review. Also mugwart, Hacksaw Ridge was an awful film. Probably one of the worst ever made.monospaced
- Clint. ... has had a slow decline.... do love him and always will.mugwart
- The Brits lost about 100 aircraft there. This movie makes it seem like they only dispatched a few, saving them for future battles.raf
- A collection of v.impressive set pieces with little connection to the historical realityfadein11
- Are you guys talking about Heartbreak Ridge??? LMAO that was made by Eastwood and sucks. I’m talking about Hacksaw Ridge that Mel Gibson made.mg33
- No. I’m talking about hacksaw ridge.monospaced

decent cgi for sure but it's missing something, mainly a plot.

noland hates CGI so much. some of the background soldiers were cardboard cut out... lol

Visually looked great and how the scenes were set up was also brilliant, and drove the story along well.
However, I found the narrative fairly boring. Most people will already know the story. I think it could had been so much better - having more human focused storylines of individuals e.g. camaraderie, grief and horror - like Saving Private Ryan would have been far better.
Dunkirk flitted between characters, without actually giving me a sense of the how the events of Dunkirk affected them - the emotions they encountered and the human tragedy of the whole thing.
- I heard one interview that said in war, no one ever gets to even finish a conversation, never mind sit down and talk about their feelings. The lack of dialogueDaveO
- made me absolutely terrified for them, so scared they can't even talk. I like hgow a lot of it was quite flat, acting wise – like the Scottish pilot, so goodDaveO

Why did the most dramatic death have the be the little wimpy kid?

Let the downvotes begin. This movie bored me to tears.
Looked beautiful tho.

A movie about young men waiting in line and trying not to get killed while waiting to be picked up.
Very little dialogue.

Not a war movie at all.
A lot clock ticking.
Very little dialogue.
F'n amazing.

Saw it last night.
Brilliantly crafted film. The spitfire scenes are superb and the tension builds well throughout. Hans Zimmer's score is great and even the ex boy-bander is pretty good.
Definitely one of Nolan's best.
- lowimpakt1
just watched it (35 mm)
found it intense from start to finish,
incredibly sad.

I am hearing so many mixed reviews. Some say its great, others say it basically has no characters anyone cares about. Havent seen it yet.
His movies, aside from the batman ones are so hit or miss with people. Most people seem to like Prestige, but people are super mixed on Inception (complex plot), and Interstellar (super slow).
- Agree on his films being hit or miss. I think when his brother is involved, the trend tilts towards hit.DRIFTMONKEY
- I don't get why people pay attention to reviews at all. who cares about what some stranger thinks of a movie he watched in whatever mood he was currently in...moldero
