I do design work, not video though.
What laptop should I get? 13 or 15 in? Macbook Pro? Is Retna worth it?
Anything new coming soon I should hold out for?

Depends on your 3D needs. PC is stronger there. Mac has a stronger OS.

Don't really do 3D either. Stuck being a Mac fanboy.

PC laptops are stronger? People still running Windows on a Mac?

Retina screens are lovely... but visually inaccurate to the 72dpi world that's still dominating the screens of most end-users.
You'll find yourself working @ 200% scale in photoshop if you're working @ 72dpi and it will still be a little fuzzy / odd (unless this has changed... there may be a preference / option now. I plug my retina into 2 external screens and haven't checked this in months).
If you're NOT designing for web / pixels and do more vector / print then by all means grab a retina laptop... great for photographers of course but not sure about editing video (probably great if you're editing 4K)

wait for new macbook release, it should be around the corner. Then get 13 inch + good 27 inch monitor

I'd say go for a 15MBP with retina. Buy it on the Mac refurb site. What is your budget and how long can you hold out for? Remember to tack on an additional $300 for apple care (worth it because it literally covers almost anything). http://www.apple.com/shop/browse…
Processor speed is about the last thing you need to care about (the incremental changes don't really make a difference-especially models made in the same year). It's more about the HD space and the RAM.
