I've got a project I've also been wanting to get done, but have no idea where to start or how to get a model/mold(s) made. It's an old street lamp that used to signal where the old street cars here in town (in a bygone era) used to stop to pick up passengers. They're not being replaced when they get hit by automobiles or knocked over. Word is they're pretty expensive to replace so they are slowly disappearing.
I would like to create a small replica of them, possibly a desktop, night light, or even a nearly full size floor lamp but I have no idea how to get a scalable model(s) made, where in China to go to get them manufactured, or what any of this might cost.
I uploaded photos of some of them around town you can see here. http://imgur.com/a/3FaGp
Any leads, advice, or direction on where to start would be most appreciated. If I need a 3D model to get molds made, I would be interested in getting this done as a starting point. It seems to me I would at least need something like that first, but I've never done anything like this before.
Thanks in advance!
- should post the pics in "Boobs of the day" thread :)lvl_13
- lots of 3d modelers here http://polycount.com…EricChadwick
- Thanks for the link Eric!ghandolf

Don't understand this thread, are you expecting people to work for free on this? for shits and giggles?
- all in the spirit of awesomenessGnash
- No expectancy at all, imbecile just started making them.Noggin
- I render dreary glass and concrete boxes for a living - doing this shit is a worthwhile distraction and good for adding to my skills.face_melter
- imbecile1
I could do this as well.
The cool part is knowing the other 3 artists, you'd end up with 4 totally different versions of that robot.
Personally, I'd love to see dopepope's. I know he's available for commissions. He did a similar style already, emulating benjadams illustration style.
try fiverr too, I want to see what they make you.
- dopepope1
Just the rider of the bike? Or the bike too?
- Noggin0
Fantastic!
I am interested to see if dopepope has a different take on these.
- Noggin0
- No can do. I'm way too swamped with work to do free projects at this time.
Imbecile is crushing it tho.dopepope - Money would be involved. I have about $3.76 in my Paypal.Noggin
- I have no idea what that means. You have only $3.76 to pay ppl?dopepope
- j/k, I am willing to pay for the models though, something like zExterminus looks like it took quite a few days/weeks though.Noggin
- No can do. I'm way too swamped with work to do free projects at this time.
- johnny_wobble1
This would be fun to do a whole 3D scene. Is it your illustration?
- imbecile0
I agree with johnny_wobble.
Share the source illy and let the modeling begin!
I personally won't be happy until face-melter has rendered the scene.
- :D I'm curious to attempt this, purely as an educational exercise. I have zero knowledge about body modelling. I'm totally seeing Hajime Sorayama's chrome bods.face_melter
- Yeah totally his style for the Biker.Noggin
- Noggin0
Want the girl on the bike, I eventually want to get it 3D printed.
Would be great if she was posable but that is probably more complicated adding the bones and stuff.I have the original AI file, if that helps.
Not sure I wanna pay all 4 people to do job as much as that would be cool :)
I will email you dopepope.
