My sis wants to buy my car. It's worth 18k and her offer is 7.5k now, and 10k in 5 years. Good idea or bad idea? I can borrow the car anytime I want. She takes care of my parents so it would be somewhat of a family car.

it's going to be hard for her to part with 10K in 5 years for a car that isn't worth that anymore.
rule of thumb with family -- kiss the money goodbye. be at peace with not getting it back.

Should probably get a third opinion.

10K in 5 years meaning a lump sum in 5 years, or payments monthly over the next 5 years to cover the cost? If the first, no, if the later, perhaps.

this just sounds like the worst idea ever.
if you have no problem never seeing that 10k and having that massive issue hanging over your relationship, then go for it

She's taking care of my parents so I thought this would somehow help. My dad is 73 and works 2 days a week to help with the rent. I let her use my car for the past 2 years and pay the insurance.

I would have no issue doing it.
In fact, even if I had to just donate the car, I'd probably do it. It's for her and your parents. She's taking care of your parents. You're donating your hard earned money, and she's donating her daily time. It's a wash.

all the same, if that is the deal, dont bother with the 10k.. you wont see it and if she is doing all that, just cop it and you wont have issues in the future

You let women in your family drive???????
- hahaha, fuckdetritus
- lol, I read that in Borat's voicemonospaced
- I don't get it unless there's a racist reference herepinkfloyd

Money can put strain and potentially ruin any relationship, but if you have money, FAMILY is the most important thing.
You can get a good used car for 8, 10K, do that and sell your car. It's not hard to buy and sell cars.

Now she's asking to pay 5k now, and 2.5k after September, and if I can continue to pay insurance.

I think i'll just try to sell the car, and chip in if she gets a used car for around 8-10k.

This is my first time selling a car, and I got this one guy who wants to buy it. I haven't met him, but my sister said he seemed like a nice guy. He said he can only meet in the evening, and that the cash is good. I said would rather meet at a bank, but he said he can't. He wants the car for his daughter, and that his wife is a house cleaner who collects cash.
I guess I should have a title to sign over, a bank lien release, and some of the paperwork I downloaded from the dmv. I also need to take out the plates. Any funny business I should look out for?
- do you own it outright -- do you have financing or a lease?Gnash
- I bought a car from a guy in NYC and the paperwork was fairly straightforward - but I trusted the guy.Gnash
- I was most concerned about insurance. You want to make sure that you are not liable for anything once he picks up the car.Gnash
- I have a lien release, car is paid offpinkfloyd
- can you meet at the DMV - i'd be nervous about leaving with the cashGnash

Also, I said to my sis i'd chip in for a used car and now she's saying she's not sure if she would buy a used car.
