Colombia has changed a lot in recent years, Considered even safe now a days. I cant wait to go myself. and i do know a lot of people that travel there all the time and say its wonderfull. All those horror stories are from 20 years ago
- ********-2
It might have changed, but there's many better places to go, no?

some serious nerds on this site. Colombia is fucking rad.

Colombia is beautiful. Pacific on one side, Carribean on the other, and andes mountains in the middle.
Not to mention the women!

Colombia has changed a LOT!! Medellin for example is considered one of the best cities to live in South America right now... and one of the cheapest! Cartagena I heard its cool too, although it still has a bit of problems... and from what I heard, Cali is still a bit of a troubled city when it comes to kidnapping, etc...
I am researching a lot about this, because I am considering moving to Medellin at some point.

Sounds nice....been wanting to visit Medellín. I might make it down there later this summer too.

I forgot to follow up on this when I got back...
Cartagena was amazing!
-A beautiful city filled with beautiful people.
-My Spanish is atrocious but I was able to get by on a handful basic phrases and lots of pointing. The locals were patient and accommodating in regards to this.
-Safety was an initial concern but quickly vanished - just have some common sense.
-Food was great/ as cheap as you want it to be. You can spend $1 on a fresh juice and an arepa or $50 for a 4 course meal and drinks at the best restaurant in town.
-Everyone claims to have the "best mojito in town"
-Beer is cheap - $1 is about the average.
-Quality cocktails are cheap (by nyc standards) - an $18 drink here would go for about $7 there.
-It was extremely hot/humid. The pool at our AirBnB was a lifesaver - some days the heat index was up to 118° F with 85%+ humidity.
-City is pretty small so it's really easy to get around on foot. You could easily walk from one end to another in 10-15 minutes.
-Drinking in public is a-ok.
-Flight was cheap. ~$400RT per person from NYC.
-Exchange rate is pretty great right now - 3,000COP is about 1 USD.Overall, I'd highly recommend it!
If anyone is considering going and wants some recommendations just let me know.

The Getsemani area is a pretty cool area to hang out.

Calles I'll be in cartagena the first week of Sept also. Staying in Getsemani and then going out to isla rosario for a few days then camping (i think?) around playa blanca. Let me know know if you want to get a cerveza while you're there
