On another note, do I need to get an extarnal monitor? is it worth it? Or is it ok just to work off a 15" laptop?

Just looked online and this seems good any suggestions?

16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
Force Touch trackpad

What does "heavy" signify? Tons of massive files open at all times? Or just using it a lot?
Honestly, anything is fine most likely. If it's tons of huge files, build a PC that can handle it, or spend 4x that for a Mac Pro. ORRR, build a hackintosh.
Laptop performance will always be worse than a desktop. Definitely get an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Even a 15" screen sucks.

Do you have many options?

I also have a maxed out MacBook. I needed a laptop because I work freelance and need to have it on location half the time. I use a lot of After Effects and Cinema 4D and 16 GB of RAM does not cut it most of the time. 32 would be nice but 16 is the limit in those machines. An external is very nice to have.
- It would be nice if apple came up with a serious update for the mac book pro, instead of just making it gold colorMiguex

No matter how "heavy" your psd files are. They will never require as much power than people using it for 3D / Motion Graphics.
So, you really don't NEED the latest computer. If in doubt, but can afford it, just get the fastest one. It will be obsolete in 1 week anyways
- Mine has lasted me 5 years now. Still runs great with photoshop. Was almost the fastest model with hard drive swapped with fusion drive 2 years ago.pango

Thanks for the feedback.
Going for this setup:
2.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
500GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
Force Touch trackpad
Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)- Coulda saved a lot by getting a non-apple external displaymonospaced
- Am disappointed that I don't have the opportunity is say "what she said." But what mono said.pango

What about an iMac? Or will you be travelling and working in different places?

why will they not let you add more storage on the lower end 13 macbook pro? that's ridiculous. 128gig solid state. that will last long :\

- because they can.pango
- Actually, they totally allow you to order that configuration. Press the back button and buy the next one in the list. It's identical, but w/ 256GB SSD.nb
- I want the option to go up to a terabyte...or at least 512.lvl_13
- Or swap the drive your self... is that still an option?pango
- I thought everything was fused to the motherboard? Maybe just the ram? If that's the case I will stop whining.lvl_13
