General Incompetence

Maybe it's just me, but over the last few months or so I've noticed an overall lack of competence in everything I've paid for.... things being delivered like food etc., services like housecleaning, dog walking, quality of things ordered online...
Anyone else notice this kind of downward trend?

Yes. But walk your dog, it'll take your mind off it.

Having moved in to a new apartment last year and spending 10 months so far dealing with various contractors from the builder to fix all manner of defects and poor finishes, it's not so much as something I've "noticed" but have seen as a big flashing neon sign.

Perhaps it is not general incompetence but your swelling feeling of entitlement?
Remind yourself you are entitled to nothing as everything (including you) is temporary.
; )
I'm still learning this myself; it seems that it takes a lifetime to balance confidence (entitlement) with humility...

Aren't you entitled. Clean your own house and buy or grow your own food. Troll?
- Shouldn't he be given what he's expected to receive, as he's paying for the service? He's not asking for this stuff for free.iCanHazQBN

Anyone notice a decline in quality of caviar and gold cutlery lately? My butler has a tough time cutting my steak with my new knives I just bought online. The world has gone to shit if I can't find a good quality gold knife. smh.

These things become more visible to those with the force nearing their 40s!

I find incompetence in objects. It's amazing how many things are badly designed or poorly made.
Our ironing board for example, the top fabric thing is constantly slipping off, barely stays on. Surely they bloody tested these things and saw this was a major problem? I mean, they had ONE job, and fucked it up.
- Just wait till it catches fire from the heat and friction of the iron. Then'll you'll realise they had two jobs. And they fucked up both.ian
- They did test it and found that it will wear out in 1yr but will annoy the shit out of you 4mos and you will buy a new one.voiceof
- lol at ironing your own clotheCALLES

Yup, it is everywhere. I'd blame human nature more than anything else (the younger gen feeling "entitled" doesn't exactly help things). People will, generally speaking, do as little as possible to get their paycheck.

Further to ironing boards - has anybody ever used a good toaster? over an extended period of time? I swear they're all shit.
Kettles, same.
- Toasters. Spend $20 or $200 they can't toast evenly. They all have the same shit internals, some just with nicer cases.ETM
- You probably live in Europe. US toasters are great.iCanHazQBN
- Yeah, good point. I probably do.Fax_Benson

First, someone doing a job for someone you feel is "entitled" doesn't give them the right to do it poorly.
Second, does anyone know any good child walkers? Mine keeps using the wrong leashes and the kids are getting chaffed.
Also, I am on my 3rd grape peeler this month. Anyone know a good one? They all think they are too good for the job. Gee, who's entitled now?

I've noticed lately that driving has gone completely to the shitter.
It reminds me of a game I used to have when I was a kid. It was a large football field and you'd set your players on it in formation then turn it on. It would vibrate to fuck all and maybe dudes would fall over, maybe they'd score, maybe they'd just turn in circles and form a mass in the middle.
I see this exactly when I'm driving and can't help but think I'm the dickhead with the football tasked with breaking through everything.

I am entitled to these things, because I paid for them, and I am entitled to expect quality. The notion that nobody is allowed to expect quality is ludicrous, especially seeing that we live in a world where there are very few checks against incompetence.
Omaha, I'm sure you have a very different picture than the actual world I live in. I hire a dog walker because I work late into the night, often too late for me to actually cook for myself or shop for clothes from an actual store like a normal person. I really do wish I could walk him myself more but I don't work from home as much as I'd like to, and I feel very guilty about it. Should I not hope for the best substitute for my love for the little guy?
