A little clarity - These traced images would be of things from a cable company like installer vans, close up of coax cable, cable modems, etc. And the desired style that's being asked for is "contemporary and modern". Their output would be as accents to a video piece where text and other graphics would be on screen as well. These drawn elements would not be the main element on screen. Thanks all for the suggestions!

it will still be easy enough - like mentioned above - print out photos - use tracing paper or copy paper on a light table (or window) quickly trace with a sharpie - take photos of them or scan them in
if you have a bunch to do only do one or two to see if the client likes the technique

you are going to struggle to fake drawing skills if you can't draw.

Q: Any ideas on where to start?
A: Pencil and a sheet of paper.Do they not teach how to draw in design school these days?
- drawing has never been a focus at design schoolGnash

If you do go down the trace route, these brushes can help...

What's the image? Perhaps if it's not too complex, not being strong in the drawing department might be a good thing!

Could use a projector too.
