My iCloud 5gb is full... ok go to finder, iCloud Drive - Can't see my photos and iPhone back up - which are the big ass files taking up all the 5gb iCloud space?
All I want to do is see all those files - especially the photos, and grab them off the iCloud. How to do that?
I Checked out Photos app on Mac - not entirely confidence which album is showing me the photos on my iCloud specifically.
I've got photos downloaded from iCloud it seems, from my iPhone. But those are now on my Mac... But! deleting one removes it from cloud and iPhone. Right...
Plus where are these photos in finder? ok, I find the file "Photos Library.photoslibrary". Show package contents > mess of sub folders in sub folders in sub folders with random names, eventually leading to some photos. Well done apple.
Ok in Photos app I can select a bunch of photos and drag them to a folder in finder.
But now I've got the photos I dragged into a folder on my Mac HD. I've got the same photo files buried in the "Photos Library.photoslibrary". I've got those photos also somewhere in my iCloud. And also on my iPhone. And in the iPhone backup.
Man this is all fucked up.
I want this:
Take photo on iPhone > photo kept on iPhone > photo sent to cloud, able to view this in iCloud Drive within finder. Open photo app > album called iCloud Drive. Album called fucking photos on this Mac > Ability to see the photos in finder that I see in Photos.app.
^ with all that, I can easily manage my iCloud space and make back ups.
- Need that google pixel with unlimited photo cloud storage...shapesalad
- remember that email (including attachments ) are also stored in that same 5GBGnash
- You have to think of iCloud as being similar to dropbox - in that ALL the files in your photo library are stored in iCloud.Gnash
- if you want to delete files from iCloud, just delete them on your local device. This deletes them from iCloud as well as all your other local devices.Gnash
- You can also just turn off syncing your photos to iCloud. You then just sync the pics on you phone to your computer as beforeGnash

- Also, you can transfer the photos and videos that you don't want to store in iCloud to your computer...Gnash

Well let me ask this. How do I take all my videos and put them up into my icloud account? I thought apple was supposed to be making this stuff simpler.
- videos don't go to Photo Stream. They backup though if Camera Roll is enabled.ESKEMA

I'm using Dropbox to auto-sync all my camera roll content.
Voilà!

maybe this? Goto settings, iCloud, turn Photos to "On"

Im just so tired of apple at this point. Nothing works properly. They have this feature called icloud, I spent money to get more space on this piece of shit, almost nothing on my phone is actually backed up to it.
I spent $20 to get only 160 of my pix backed up and my contacts. Fuck. You. Apple. Fucking crooks.
- CygnusZero40
Yep, this guy cleared it up. Its a piece of shit system not actually intended to be a backup, but only to transfer files, and shit is deleted after 30 days? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I have 20gb that I purchased. Let me use it assholes!

Not sure why it doesn't work for you. I take a photo and it's on my iCloud instantly, ready in iPhoto in my home computer, and i have 100% control over what is uploaded, what is private, etc. It sucks that you have such issues with basic Apple products, I really feel for you.

Dont even ask about my apple id nonsense that I have literally talked to 8 apple employees about. Its been a nightmare.
If I take a pic right now, it will go up to my photostream. What I never knew is they are automatically deleted. I was led to believe icloud was a backup system, but it isnt, its a transfer system, nothing more.
Well I have 35 videos, I have no way to download ios8, and its impossible for me to put those videos on icloud. Shouldnt that be made clearer before I spend money for more space? If stuff is deleted after 30 days, why in the world would I ever need 20gb?
- CygnusZero40
If youre curious about my apple id shit, I have 2. I dont know why. One is tied to my phone, the other is tied to my itunes account for purchases and they both conflict with each other. Ive called apple many times and this never got resolved, and it causes a lot of problems on my iphone and ipad. Just gave up on it after a year of talking to these idiots like 9 times.

You're confusing Photo Stream with Backup. The two are different things. Your videos are backed up if you have Camera Roll enabled on iCloud Backup. Everything you thick in there will be backed up.
Photo Stream is weird but it's only for sharing stuff instantly across devices, it's not a backup solution. So, even if you don't have Photo Stream enabled, but have Camera Roll on iCloud backup, your assets are fine.

But I would advise to get everything to the computer before doing any upgrade.

I have photos turned on in my icloud settings. No mention of the camera roll in the settings. The option is called photos, which Im guessing doesnt include my videos.

Dude, you start blaming like crazy but in fact you don't know what you're doing.
iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Choose the device you want to manage > Backup Options

- That was different, that was talking about the actual icloud site, which is a piece of shit too.CygnusZero4

I dont understand how this icloud backup works. I plug the phone in, its on wifi all the time, so Im guess this has backed up, yet there is no mention of it on the icloud site, no way for me to verify on my phone if anything is backed up, so what is the point of this? I could go delete my 35 videos right now and for all I know they are just completely gone.
- yep, that's why I said to make sure it's somewhere else before wiping out.ESKEMA
- it should all back up to a computer automatically as well when on wi-fimonospaced

Backups are for restore, not casual access to random files. You restore and everything in that backup is restored. You can't access individual files. iCloud Drive will work like Dropbox so let's see how that goes, but if you just want cloud space for your files and access them, I would use Dropbox.
- ah - the cloud - so simple for the averaage person lolfadein11
