People will just get fatter as they can devote 100% attention to eating while driving, rather than only the 80% attention to eating while driving now.
- it'll be more like 30% snapchat, 20% instagram, 20% facebook, 30% eatingKrassy
- punches for anyone who eats while drivingmonospaced

- For The Long Haul, Self-Driving Trucks May Pave The Way Before Carsomg
- this isn't going to end well, it's one thing for a hipster to be taken a few blocks to get his latte but this is people's livelyhoods we're talking about._niko
- truckers don't take this shit laying down, there will be mass highway protests, they'll shut everything down before they let this happen_niko
- it will put a lot of humans out of work that's for sure. There needs to be a smart way of converting these current drivers into new positions within the companylvl_13
- Good luck with that. No company has a problem laying off 10,000 people if that product is no longer needed. That's a LOT of truck drivers.formed
- I think it'll just happen. Evolve or die, as they say.formed
- It'll happen slowly. Someone retires or quits, they won't get replaced by another human.ETM
- Lets not forget the substantial cost in replacing a fleet.ETM

Not having to find parking would be a big advantage too. I'm assuming the cost will be significantly lower than taking a taxi? Or knowing Google maybe you will just be forced to watch ads as you drive or something.

Looks like something from a AI movie.

The car looks like it has seen horrible things o_O

What about the other 25%. Those fuckers will be a problem no?
If everything is automated and communicating with other cars and getting us from A to B as quickly and safely as possible we can still get rammed into, cut up, over taken, slowed down etc. by them?

theres an autonomous google car, that is circulating around their headquarters, and its zero failure to this day, nothing compared to human drivers.
i think it would be great, would solve a lot of traffic problems, taxi drivers will be pissed about this tho

Cool, frees up society to spend more time looking at screens.
- (other than windscreens, obvs.)eoin
- even windscreens could be partly eliminated in an autonomous vehiclemonospaced

I love this progress, but I do recall a sci fi story from when I was young, all about a big error that happened and killed so many...seems like there would be a hack, power outage, communication glitch, etc., that would result in something horrible.
BUT who knows, given Google's progress with robotics, etc., I figure it is only a matter of time before Skynet becomes a reality too.

First driverless vehicles that run in regular traffic arrive in the Netherlands

can see personal ownership going down as it would be a waste to have it stay in your drive-way 90% of the time. would rather enjoy being able to sleep, work or drink while the car drives. take a nap and wake up somewhere else. traffic jams would be a thing of the past.
