Hey busterboy, I've been using standing desks for going on 3 years and know some hacks.
1) buy a counter-height table and a bar-stool. it's not height adjustable, but it gives you the same benefits and you can still sit down, at a higher height. If you google "Ikea Standing Desk Hacks" you'll find a lot of frankensteinian creations using ikea stuff
2) just put one of these stands on your regular-height desk. i found one at Fry's for $95.
lady here is using two, which seems a little gratuitous but w/e3) whatever your arrangement, make sure you can alternate sitting and standing. neither one is good for you to do all day every day. my chiropractor told me it's best to alternate about every hour.

why do people enjoy working this way
- it is better for your body, clears your mind, helps prevent illness, etc., etc.formed
- how is standing all day better? the rest are subjective.doesnotexist
- if you don't understand how standing all day is better then... ummm.... discussion over I guess.set
- And yet cashiers and hair stylists have terrible health problems from standing all day....monNom
- I sort of wonder how nobody thought to stand up and work at their desks in the past 2000 years or clerical work...monNom

Does anyone have one of these? I was planning on going IKEA (cheap, but horrible reviews, though their warranty is 10 years), but this sale puts them at about the same price.
- i think they're adjustable to 2/10ths of an inch. Saw them at an expo in Chicago. I liked them.imbecile
- They look pretty nice, good material options. I know the IKEA motors died (since replaced) and would hate to buy one and have it die.formed
- my guys in Chicago use Autonomous desks. I worked in the offices there on them, cheap and pretty good.Boz

- I just missed out on a vintage draughting table...I was gutted.see_thru

I have an adjustable desk that I believe can accommodate standing height.
It is glass though, so I wonder if always standing will fatigue me or make me more efficient in work or use of the computer in general.
I have a nearly identical desk in the same room so I could return to sitting in a chair if need be.
I could probably pick up a draftsman stool if standing ended up being a beneficial decision as the occasional sitting solution.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with standing exclusively at their desk as opposed to sitting.
- Standing is tough, sitting is easier. Dont stand. And always have a bowl of fresh sour cream and onions potato chips on the desk.Bennn

I think I'll just split it up 50/50. Need to change things up, running my own business I tend to work too long and not move much (well, I do get a lot of coffee, so up and down the stairs about 500 times a day!).
These 'on your desk' ones look interesting (not the ones that don't move, I want to be able to easily change it).
These are what I am looking at:
UpDesk:
GEEK Desk:
Kangaroo Desktop:
Steelcase one is lovely, but damn expensive.
