Another option would be to use the same percentage for scaling. I.e. you scale the object 120% then you scale the effect 120% also..

...if you link them. yes, that will work. But I'm trying to streamline the process, file size etc. oh well back to the old school, hopefully CS7 will sort this.
Anyone got the direct line for the Photoshop engineers?

Ok I see what you mean...
You could duplicate the smart object, apply a "real" mask to it and apply the blur (without masking the effect). That way, the mask will always resize with the layer.
- not the best option I know, because you'll need to duplicate whatever effects you're thinking to addESKEMA

If there's a better way to mask a blur effect, please do let me know!!
I'm basically trying to increase the focal depth

How did you mask the filter? That can't be done as far as I know..
can you upload a screenshot of the layers palette?

AAH thanks ESKEMA
Yeah, what I've done is different. I've masked the filter, not the layer. I just want some parts of it blurry.
Imagine your screenshot, but I've applied some masking to the actual filter, not the layer. (so I've clicked the little white box to the left of "smart filters" and drawn in black on that mask)
FFS basically I'm trying to work properly with masking for once, as I'm working with low-res images and want to be able to swap them for high-res at the last minute.
I honestly think it can't be done. WTF Adobe?

^ ?? Between the layer and the smart filter that appears below/as part of it? Nothing pops up I'm afraid, the filter is not something I can select. (only the filter's mask can be selected)
For what it's worth, I turned the layer into a smart object and applied the filter to make it a smart filter.

2: If you already have your shape, Command + Drag it on top of the layer you want to mask.
If you're drawing it, make sure it says Path and not shape. Layer > Vector Mask > Current Path

You need to join them.
Click between them so the little link icon appears. After that they will behave as you expect. This is not CS6 related, it is standard behavior.

1: If I have a smart filter with a mask (so I've blurred an image with a smart filter, but kept the woman clear by masking out the blur)
When I transform the layer, the mask stays the same, so they no longer match up. How the friggity fuck can I transform them together?
2: Before CS6, shape layers had their own vector path. I used to simply move that mask onto a layer to mask it. Now it's just a little icon and not draggable. How can I use a shape layer's vector mask to mask an image?
Thanks chaps!!! If you don't know the answer, please post a silly but sfw image.
