Does anyone seriously think surface should exist other than to be smashed?
- If you read mainstream news and respectable authorities, you'd know they are awesome. See? http://seekingalpha.…monospaced

- Only because you want to destroy something beautiful.monospaced

I agree with formed. The benefits from the removable keyboard and full Windows experience totally outweigh trivial things like battery life and pretty design that the iPad is all about. Apple is like Flash, dead.
- Who cares about updating drivers and swapping storage cards? You're working on spreadsheets at the mall!monospaced

Tablets hurt my eyes and give me a headache because of the constant scrolling. I do love it as an ereader. Based on that, i would go simple.

It's interesting you say this formed, because everyone at my work that were due an upgrade on their phones has got a samsung!!! they seem to have left the iphone en-masse.
Apple still have a huge share obvs. but it's crazy the amount of people I have seen who have ditched the iphone.

I'd go Surface Pro if it were out when I was looking. Apple is going the way of Flash. :-)

Yeah, there's no real work done on it for design related stuff, apart from some illustrations and the occasional connection via ftp to edit some web files on the fly.
For people that their work consist mainly in communicating, then a tablet is perfect.
But entertainment wise, it's awesome. Great battery times for travel, light, tons of great games (casual and more complex). Watch / Stream movies, play with music apps, the list is endless.
I'm biased for Apple products mainly because I think the app ecosystem is really stronger, but it is also more limited in connectivity and stuff like that. Play with both and make a decision. It could also help thinking about what you would use it for and research the apps available for those uses in both ecosystems.- who needs an app ecosystem when you have Windows 8 and Excel?monospaced

like others have said
I love my tablet, so awesome for arm chair browsing. But yeh, dont expect to be productive on it aside from browsing and communication.Between the two choices?
Its totally a preference of mobile ecosystem. Go have a play on both and see which you prefer! :D

nexus are great I have the 7 but the speakers are utter dog shit and were a real let down, apart from that I really enjoy it. I didn;t really think I would use one until I got one and the old lap top sits around most of the time unless I want to actually do work.

Surface Pro
- I've yet to see a living soul with one
GeorgesIV - Selling so fast, Apple is freaking out, that's why AAPL stock is falling so fast. Everyone wants Office.monospaced

I had a nexus 7 once. I smashed it with a giant hammer.

i have the nexus 7.
i use it for reading books, communications etc. while travelling and for taking notes in meetings/workshops/conference
the swiftkey keyboard has made notetaking a dream.
the 7 is perfect for these needs and an iPad or nexus 10 would be a waste of space and money.
also, it fits in my jacket pocket so I can leave the bag behind.

They all do the same shit. I'd go iPad just because of the app store and slick design of the thing.

I have both an iPad and a Nexus 7. I think it's safe to say I do little constructive work on either except for testing apps or websites I am working on. They are consumption devices that overlap on most important things.
Are they irreplaceable? No. Convenient? Yes. It would just mean dragging out the laptop again as a living room device/second screen. But a tablet makes a much better bathroom device :)

What do you think of the Google Nexus phone ?

At the home tablets are purely a leisure device. I can't honestly say i've ever done anything remotely productive on the tablets I have at home, with the exception of checking and replying to email.

I wish I had a new Macbook Air instead of what I currently travel with, a relatively heavy 2010 15" MB Pro and iPad3.
You're not missing anything with iPads.
