In Canada, it's 'amazing.' Every little boring thing is 'amazing' around here.

Americans over use 'genius' as well. Like bacon tacos "Genius!", dogs in leotards "Genius!"... thinking of more, I see this daily.

Brilliant is not even a English word.
Its DNA comes from a plant in Tibet that the Turkish nomads took from Iran into New York.

Whenever I work with our UK counterparts, whether on the phone or when they visit, they throw around the word "brilliant" all the time, which confuses so many people here. I have to explain that in the USA, brilliant is defined, basically, as "really, really smart, like genius smart" and that when they compliment the pimple-faced kid bagging their groceries at the bodega with a "brilliant" and they get a weird look it's because the kid can't figure out why they're calling him smart just for ringing them up.
