I can't think of their names, but there are some portfolio apps that I allow this I believe.

I cannot see how you can do anything like preload a video without tying the device to a user account. Bit odd to do that and then expect the client to wipe the device clean and then set up with their own info.

I can't see why it would be odd. I'd think it actually common.
We created a video for them that they are using for promotion. As a 'thank you' we are buying them iPads. Obviously it would be nice to have the video we created for them on the iPads (otherwise they are just generic and don't offer anyone anything beneficial).
Asking them to import the video themselves is a little much, given their tech prowess.
It is also beneficial to us for them to have iPads with out video on it, obviously.
Maybe they'll just leave one video on the iPad and never add anything, but that's quite a piece of equipment for only one video.
I DO NOT like iTunes and this locked system. So frustrating (for my own personal accounts too)!!

gift a non I(wathever-locked) device?

why not send a card with a QR code and instructions as to how to access a QR code on the ipad? Even if you did preload the video wouldn't you have to still instruct your client to go to this folder, app, whatever to view it?

"and instructions as to how to access a QR code"
perhaps my favorite line of the day

- still, seem like this is adding more steps/confusion.bjladams

I've used this for presentations and RFP responses in the past. Might do what you need it do... it gets any content you want on an ipad without iTunes.

The big issue is that one needs to set up an account on the device in order to install any apps, download video (from what email account), etc. I'm not sure why I'm passionate about this topic AT ALL!

It is a worthy cause to be passionate about! ;-)
Looks like I'll have to do some backhanded way...setup generic iTunes accounts, install video, put it on a usb drive formatted for the iPad with instructions how to get it back on there if/when they setup their own iTunes accounts.
Still cheering for Windows/Android to shake it all up....(already bought the iPads, though, so stuck for this round)
- should've just had it engraved with your logo or something
whatthefunk - yeah, I got stickers...not quite the same, but it'll doformed

keep the ipads sealed and build them a personal app they can download for free once they have set up the device with their personal accounts. will get you into the problem of publishing an app on the appleStore in time and building a slideshow with video and some corporate gimmick.
...get money for the update next year

The "goal" is to encourage them to use the iPads to promote the work we did for them. So while a nice gift, it serves two purposes.

anyone know if this would be easier with a Windows or Android tablets?
- obviously, since they're so much better than iPads in every waymonospaced
- Didn't say that one way or another, just that it wouldn't take much to make something more user friendlyformed
