Hey Rusty, by any chance are there any of those zippered sets heading for the recycling bin? :)

Rusty Stew, thanks!

Surely the palette should be free and they make their money selling the system to the printers.
Without the printers their palette is worthless.

Each of the Pantone color books has a serial code in the front that is a free download of their color manager software. I havn't used it but I think it just spits out swatches you can import to your software.

You could, technically, just specify the Pantone color you want in the mechanical. After all, it's just a number. That being said, I agree with you completely, CuriousGeorge, doesn't make sense to pay to spec the set of swatches when you've already purchased the design software and the books.

My statement is valid. If there's a price to pay, pay it. If it's a free update, acquire it. If you want a free update for a product with a price, that is piracy & theft.

- It's not theft to spec a color, albums. He's got a point.monospaced

No, your assumption is completely off.
it used to be free to update your color palette. Pantone provided an update which I did it in the past, but now I have a new computer so I need to do it again.
I bought the books, I didn't steal anything, nor am I trying to. All I want to do is just use the Plus colors that are part of it, but the default palette in Illustrator does not support the newer Plus colors.

So you want to acquire a tool to add to your toolbox when you do work for other companies that pay you, but you don't feel the responsibility to pay for said tools?
- How is wanting to use Pantone's colors in my clients work ripping off Pantone?CuriousGeorge
- typical v3-4 response. dude is just asking if that's the only way to get the palette. a legit question. don't be that guy.lvl_13

Ha! Forgot to post that page. Yep, that's the one asking for 50 bucks of my cash!

Hey guys, I need to update my color palette in illustrator CS5 to reflect the expanded Pantone Plus colors. All sites I've searched point to this page on Adobe's site but they want to charge 50 bucks just to update my color palette?
Is that right or am I looking up the wrong tree?
Thanks!
