Apple Has Included Bitcoin Whitepaper in Every Version of macOS Since 2018
The document can be located via Finder: Navigate to Macintosh HD -> System -> Library -> Image Capture -> Devices, then open the Contents -> Resources folder. The whitepaper titled "simpledoc.pdf" should be in there.

- When I had an amiga 500, moving to pc and then Mac later, felt like upgrading was due to advances in tech.shapesalad
- Now upgrading feels like it is to fatten Apples revenue and to keep UI designers in jobs.shapesalad
- It all as good and worked really well circa 8 years ago. Since then tech advances have been marginal in terms of speed/power.shapesalad

didn't update yet - but I remember it was a feature they announced.uan - Had to change the font straight away too.PhanLo
- agreed. Those customisable apple UI fonts are really really shit. It's actually mind blowing how shit they areinteliboy
- there'd be countless incredible typographers who'd love to put their mark on apples OS... yet they probably palmed it off to some intern engineerinteliboy

- Also having issues with scaling/panning. Artboards not moving while the cursor shows that I AM moving it.Josev
- When scaling the rulers show that I'm zooming in, but the dartboard preview isn't changing/actually zooming. So weird.Josev

My Macbook Pro 2012 has been running fine as a secondary device just for some testing etc for ages...battery died a long time ago so it's just been running off the plugged in power cord...no major dramas. I do normally just leave it running or in sleep mode...I rarely turn it off.
This last weekend, I had it switched off from Friday afternoon. Tried turning it on last night – nothing. Tried a few key combinations online but still absolutely nothing. Used a different power cord...no good. I also resorted to taking the battery out and seeing if it would start while plugged in...all no good.
My question is, if I bought a new battery, what are the chances it would boot up or does it sound like something more serious? There is some data on there I'd like to recover, but it's not super critical.
Without a battery, and plugged in to the power cord, shouldn't it still power on?
If there's no chance of it ever booting up gain, is it likely all my data is gone, or is it possible to take out the HD and get someone to download?
- I've seen some MacBooks just stop like that with no clear reason. At least with a 2012 you can pop out the SSD and put it in a (special) external case.evilpeacock
- Thanks...if it has a macos and boot camp partition, could you extract data from both? It’s mainly the windows data I’d want.BusterBoy
- The data is likely recoverable, with the right case to house and power it.i_monk
- Isn't there a secondary watch style battery in there somewhere... for the internal clock / PRAM? Might be worth googling around. Could be a quick swap.Centigrade
- did you unplug the power cord when turning it off? my mbp12 did the same, but after I plugged it in and let it 'charge' for some time, it fired up normally.uan
- I would switch the battery. Probably right dead. It won't boot with a dead battery.rootlock
- I thought they still boot if you completely remove the battery...as long as it's plugged in?BusterBoy
- Likely a logic board failure. Data is recoverable but will cost between $150 and $250. I went to an authorized apple service Center and had the data back in 2 hcolab
- ^ Or just remove the drive and put it in an inexpensive external drive enclosure. It's easy to pull the drive from these machines.Josev
- I own a mid-2012, I installed a new battery and high speed drive. Took less than an hour.Josev

Seeing some Mini M2 Pro reviews raving about it's speed improvement over the M1, some calling it a "Studio-junior."
Apple Mac Mini (2023) review: Mac Studio junior
With two processor choices — one for everyday computing, the other for conquering creative work — Apple’s littlest Mac has never been more appealing.

Outstanding power efficiency is a highlight of this in-betweener desktop.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/…M2 Mac mini reviews: ‘Mac Studio junior’ with impressive performance, versatile prices
https://9to5mac.com/2023/01/23/m…I guess despite some of the previous comments here, I'm tempted to upgrade via trade-in my Mac Mini M1, simply because that trade-in value is going to decrease by the time an M3 is out in a year.
I've been perfectly happy with the M1, it was a great upgrade to my 2017 iMac, I've got a nice dual monitor setup at home for that computer and my work MBP, and as long as I'm not going nuts in Logic Pro, it's a great machine. Just tempted to upgrade since the M1 still has some trade in value that it won't have next year.
- The two extra thunderbolt ports are a big upgrade in my eyes. I have the last Intel Mini with the same form factor, and I'm using every port + dongles.section_014
- I just had to change some connections to use a new USB 3 external SSD, so I'm maxed out on the two.mg33
- That was to upgrade an older spinning external that was my Logic Pro working files drive. Nice improvement.mg33
- Do it ;) small price to pay for 3 more yearsmonospaced
- Myeaaaah the point with Apple tech is that you upgrade when the software > hardware and for some models that's 5+ years
No need to trade in anythinggrafician - Your last upgrade was iMac 2017 so 5 years. You shouldn't buy or trade anything new until at least 2025, the rest is FOMOgrafician

- cache, osx downloadsshapesalad
- Def. some kind of unpurged cache or lots of app data from Steam, Adobe, Google, Gargageband/Logic/FC... etc.evilpeacock
- Hit up your user and sys Library folders listed with "Calculate all sizes" turned on and you'll prob. find what it is.evilpeacock
- Porn disguised as system dataNBQ00
- Yea after a bit of googling it seems most of that was After Effects caches found in the library. Jeesh.Hayzilla
- Buy a cheap and fast 100 gb SSD for your AE cache. All that read/writing of cache will age your Macs HD and increase the chance of it breaking.shapesalad
- Same for Illustrator/PS etc.... set them all to a cheap + fast HD you use only for cache.shapesalad
- Adobe software filling a hard disk up with fucking loads of useless tmp and cache files? My, I am surprised.Nairn
- lol wtf have you donested
- so you hid porn in the AE cache folder and forgot about it :)sted
- delete your hidden folder stuff. at least thats how my macbook got full.milfhunter
- @shape, I have my temp files set away from boot/apps SSD and illy still manages to periodically fill the boot with internal temp working filesNairn
- Using Sketch? https://medium.com/s…grafician
- Was just going to say, purge all your after effects caches. Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cacheslappy
- As already mentioned put your AE (and everything else Adobe, Maxon, etc.) caches on a dedicated (fast) external. It'll take a ton of wear and tear off OS SSD.evilpeacock
- Indeed its cleaning your Casche. Only annoying thing is that you will need to login on every website again.milfhunter

How do you allow Safari on your Mac desktop to permanentally allow Google to access location?
Every morning when I go to google search I get that pop up, and option is to allow once or for the day.
How to allow it all the time?
- probably by signing in to your goggle account. that basically allows them to spy on you full time.hans_glib
- Might be tied to how cross-site cookies are blocked; Turning off "Enable content blockers" for all Google sites may help as well.evilpeacock
