"Apple has apologized to customers for how it rolled out an update that can slow down older iPhones. It is offering cheaper battery replacements to make up for it.

In a lengthy message posted on its site Thursday, the company gave an in-depth explanation for the controversial update. To make amends, Apple will temporarily drop the price of replacement batteries to $29 starting in late January. The price will go back up to the usual $79 in 2019."

Honestly, how about just not slowing down the phone???

Also, I wonder how they'll replace the battery on my phone with a badly cracked screen.

Y'all jerk off to the golden era of products at Braun and you hate on this? ON THIS?

    Are you even designers?

Who cares if it's the same processor as the mac mini. Go ahead and put that ugly Dell monitor on your desk if you want. Spend your life looking at that. No one cares. No one is making you buy beautiful things.

Schiller, apologizing to the pro market about the current Mac Pro, and commenting on the status of next generation Mac Pro design:

"We’re not going to get into exactly what stage we’re in, just that we told the team to take the time to do something really great. To do something that can be supported for a long time with customers with updates and upgrades throughout the years. We’ll take the time it takes to do that. The current Mac Pro, as we’ve said a few times, was constrained thermally and it restricted our ability to upgrade it. And for that, we’re sorry to disappoint customers who wanted that, and we’ve asked the team to go and re-architect and design something great for the future that those Mac Pro customers who want more expandability, more upgradability in the future. It’ll meet more of those needs."

    • I've never been to movies with babies or sticky floors, maybe your problem has more to do with your choice of movies.deadsperm
    • When I want a cheap bag of Doritos and clean wipes I load up Pornhub in the comfort of my home.deadsperm
    • Your name seems apt, deadsperm.Nairn
    • @dead: I used to go for the movies, are you saying you think I shouldn't be allowed to eat while watching a movie?zarkonite
    • @intelli: I don't control the cinema environment, it's full of potential ways in which a movie can be ruined as opposed to my home. Cinema = lesser experience.zarkonite
    • @zarkonite
It's your God given freedom to eat at the movies. But if your main concern is getting reasonably priced junk food your best bet is staying at home.
      deadsperm
    • And although I DON'T think you should not be ALLOWED to eat at the movies, personally I don't think experiencing a film NEEDS to be associated with eating.deadsperm
    • I didn't mean to tread on you, bro. I would NEVER stand in the way between you and a bag of Doritos.deadsperm
    • I actually don't want junk food, that's the problem because that's all they serve. Also the industry has decided that in order to operate a cinema successfullyzarkonite
    • you have to sell crap to make a profit and stay open. I'd love it if there wasn't any food, less interference, but once again it's an inferior viewingzarkonite
    • experience than at home. The seats are mostly badly positioned, the screen usually has terrible colours, the sounds is not nearly as crisp and detailed as myzarkonite
    • home theatre. Forget about it if you need to pause for some reason etc. Cinemas have been shit for a long time, and you haven't really said anything in theirzarkonite
    • defence. So, why do you think cinemas are so fucking great?zarkonite
    • Because I'm poor. The cinemas I go to have a bigger screen with better quality video and audio than what I have at home. AND movies I don't have a home.deadsperm

I've got an M1 laptop on Monterey. I'm running out of HD space.
Does anybody know what the fuck this 612Gb of "System Data" is?

    • noo feechurshans_glib
    • cache, osx downloadsshapesalad
    • Def. some kind of unpurged cache or lots of app data from Steam, Adobe, Google, Gargageband/Logic/FC... etc.evilpeacock
    • Hit up your user and sys Library folders listed with "Calculate all sizes" turned on and you'll prob. find what it is.evilpeacock
    • Porn disguised as system dataNBQ00
    • Yea after a bit of googling it seems most of that was After Effects caches found in the library. Jeesh.Hayzilla
    • Buy a cheap and fast 100 gb SSD for your AE cache. All that read/writing of cache will age your Macs HD and increase the chance of it breaking.shapesalad
    • Same for Illustrator/PS etc.... set them all to a cheap + fast HD you use only for cache.shapesalad
    • Adobe software filling a hard disk up with fucking loads of useless tmp and cache files? My, I am surprised.Nairn
    • lol wtf have you donested
    • so you hid porn in the AE cache folder and forgot about it :)sted
    • delete your hidden folder stuff. at least thats how my macbook got full.milfhunter
    • @shape, I have my temp files set away from boot/apps SSD and illy still manages to periodically fill the boot with internal temp working filesNairn
    • Using Sketch? https://medium.com/s…grafician
    • Was just going to say, purge all your after effects caches. Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cacheslappy
    • As already mentioned put your AE (and everything else Adobe, Maxon, etc.) caches on a dedicated (fast) external. It'll take a ton of wear and tear off OS SSD.evilpeacock
    • Indeed its cleaning your Casche. Only annoying thing is that you will need to login on every website again.milfhunter
    • CleanMyMacdoesnotexist
    • oh yeah after effects is a cache bastard. purge after every useautoflavour

So, my 14" 2021 M1 MacBook Pro is demonic.

I shut down every night, but leave the lid open, and the fucker turns itself back on. Last night it did three times, waking me up every time.

Google returns few viable explanations, and I'm guessing it's a hardware issue.

    Ugh.

    • why do you leave the lid open?Ianbolton
    • check in the system logs.uan
    • Innovation never sleeps?sausages
    • Leaving the lid open is demonic.ideaist
    • Apple. Not even once.Wordsworth
    • Good one, sausages!palimpsest
    • Super wierd; Other than "Wake on LAN" toggle and the startup scheduler there's nothing in the OS that would allow that!evilpeacock
    • Look at Wake on LAN. Try shutting the lid.comicsans
    • Yeah, Wake on LAN was set to Never. I'll see if shutting the lid solves the problem (but I doubt it).Continuity
    • Can you setup the new-ish focus mode scheduling? Just set Do Not Disturb for sleep time. That might do the trick.Centigrade
    • Heh - i experienced that myself back in my Mac days. So weird.jagara
