I think digital is more about people who have a wider array of skills, creating commercials for the web using things like 3D, AfterEffects, fancy stuff, and web designer is more just standard issue web/flash stuff.
- Digital is even beyond the web. Creating high end commercials for broadcast is still digital.CygnusZero4

What Cygnus said - Digital is usually broader than web - more languages / programmes. Although it's pretty loosely used in my experience

4 years ago I had the option to choose at a new job and went for Senior Digital Designer, rather than Web.
I think it covers more the graphic design, AE, Fil, etc. side of things. Web designer To me sounds closer to Front-End Dev, more IA, UI, etc... side of things. Very Web Specific.

I guess I see a digital designer as someone with a wider skillset outside of just making typical websites. They do things like create interactive CD ROMs (or at least design UIs for them), DVD menus, make commercials for websites using motion software, etc.. I think a web designer usually is just that alone. Flash, web design, thats about it.
I dont know if everyone sees it the same way. Thats just how I look at the 2 titles.

A digital designer produces digital work for any context.
A web designer designs for the web.

A designer, is a designer – so peeps should be able to design in most mediums. The same basic design principles apply in web as well as digital. Print is a bit different, but a good designer can design well in any media.
So to answer the question, there shouldn't be many differences. It just depends on skillsets.

It seems these days much more technical knowledge is being asked of designers. I get the feeling that some companies would prefer coding skills over design skills
