They're beautiful and mechanical wonders....
Note for street photography, you might find the "kwap" of the shutter loud and the mirror staying up after the shot disconcerting, as well as the reversed left-right and the vibration at slow shutter speeds...

I love my old TLR's for street photography, very quiet, and good for slow shutter speeds....
I have a Minolta Autocord, used to have a Rollei, but it died painfully... and the Minolta is lovely in its own way...

i love my 500c/m. i got a deal several years back. 2 bodies, 3 lenses, 4 backs, and a bunch of expired film for $1600. it was from a small shop about to close so he gave me a great deal

Love my 500 C/M. Hiked it 'round Yosemite a few years ago and recently around India. The sucker and the three lenses are heavy.

Film, and development costs will add up. keep that in mind.
You might also want a good scanner.

Don't think about the difference in format...embrace the square! The real question is what you'll do with the film when you're done shooting...are your getting your hands wet or cheating with scanned negs...
...and yes, I'm still using my trusty 503 CX for everything and anything.

Ive been thinking recently about getting a used Hasselblad 500. Used kits are on sale for quite a cheap price (under $1000).
Are there any of you out there that use one as a hobby camera? To shoot portraits or street work with? I've also never ventured into medium format yet, and im hoping this isnt something that is too difficult to get into.
Cheers,
